The purpose of this blog is to provide information about the differences between fabrication engineers, design engineers and structural engineers.

I am a practicing engineer who has worked in engineering for over a decade. I have worked with many different types of engineering companies and my experience has been varied. I have been involved in designing new products as well as manufacturing existing products.

I have seen many different types of engineering companies and each one has its own unique style of working and its own set of challenges. For example, I once worked with a company that was designing and manufacturing medical devices. They were using some very advanced technology to manufacture these devices. The company wanted to be able to produce these devices in large volumes but they did not want to invest in expensive equipment or hire an army of employees to do the work for them. Their solution was to use software that would allow them to design the device using a computer program then print out the parts using a 3D printer. This allowed them to produce thousands of devices without having to invest in any equipment or hire any staff members.

Structural Engineers

Fabrication Engineers, Structural Engineers, and Design Engineers – what is the difference between them, and how do they work together?

I am a structural engineer, I have worked in the structural engineering industry for nearly 10 years. During this time I have had many different roles within the industry. I have been a steel design engineer, a CAD technician, a CAD manager and an engineering consultant.

I am often asked about the difference between structural engineers, fabrication engineers and design engineers. There are also other common names for these positions – detailer or draughtsman.

Fabrication Engineer

A fabrication engineer works closely with production teams to ensure that all materials are cut properly to specifications, welded correctly and that any other manufacturing processes are done correctly. They will then ensure that completed products meet all standards of quality and safety. This job title can apply to manufacturing of any large-scale product such as cars, ships or building structures. For example if you were designing a large building structure you would need to be sure that it could stand up alongside all other static and dynamic loads acting upon it. You would also need to know what materials would be required to construct it in order to get an accurate estimate of cost from the manufacturer. A well-trained fabrication engineer

I’ve been a structural engineer for over 30 years, and it seems to me that there is a lot of confusion about the difference between structural engineers, design engineers and fabrication engineers. The reason why anyone would want to know the difference is because they are looking for a job, or are new to the industry, or need some extra help on their project. So, hopefully I can clear up some of the confusion here.

The main difference between structural engineers and design engineers occurs in the construction process. Structural engineers (SEs) design buildings and structures that will be built. A typical example of this would be an architect designing a house. A structural engineer would then take the architect’s drawings and calculate how much steel or concrete would be needed and how much it would cost to build it. Design engineers (DEs) design machines, buildings or structures that will not be built, but instead manufactured by someone else. An example of this could be an engineer designing a car engine.

So now you may be asking yourself: what is the difference between structural engineering and design engineering? Well, in simple terms, structural engineering is concerned with designing buildings that will stand up safely when built. Design engineering deals with the creation of machines or devices.
