The death of Heath Ledger is a sad thing. We never know why some people kill themselves and why other people do not. I found this blog, which is about his life and the memory of his death.
He loved acting, he loved the camera and the spotlight, he was one of the best young actors we have seen in recent years. He deserves to be remembered as a man who gave everything to his craft and even if he had to pay a high price for it, he still knew that happiness is more important than anything else.
I am not sure what they will find in his house, but I hope they find something that explains why he died so young, at only 28 years old. It seems unfair to think that someone can go through so much pain just to get a role in a movie. There has to be more to it than that…
In the last few days, I’ve found myself doing something odd. I’ve been watching videos on YouTube, and reading articles about Heath Ledger. It started with a video that some friends sent me, of Heath’s acceptance speech at the 2005 Australian Film Industry Awards. As I sat there listening to him speak, I felt goosebumps run up my arms. His voice was so genuine and warm; his eyes were so bright, like shiny black marbles that sparkled with joy and love. The next day, I found myself googling “Heath Ledger”. This is what started it all.
I’ve always loved Heath Ledger. After seeing him in 10 Things I Hate About You when I was just a teenager, I fell in love with his incredible talent and deep brown eyes. When I saw him again in Monster’s Ball, he stole my heart completely; but it wasn’t until Brokeback Mountain that he stole my soul too. Unlike many Hollywood actors who are only good looking and can act a little bit – or are just plain good looking – Heath had both beauty AND talent oozing from every inch of his body; not to mention his sincere passion for his work.
Heath was a rare gem in Hollywood: an actor who really
Heath Andrew Ledger (4 April 1979 β 22 January 2008) was an Australian television and film actor. After performing roles in several Australian television and film productions during the 1990s, Ledger left for the United States in 1998 to further develop his film career. His work comprised nineteen films, including 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), The Patriot (2000), A Knight’s Tale (2001), Monster’s Ball (2001), Lords of Dogtown (2005), Brokeback Mountain (), Candy (), The Dark Knight (), and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (). He also produced and directed music videos and aspired to be a film director.
For his portrayal of Ennis Del Mar in Brokeback Mountain, Ledger won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor and Best International Actor from the Australian Film Institute, and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and for the Academy Award for Best Actor. Posthumously he shared the 2007 Independent Spirit Robert Altman Award with the rest of the ensemble cast, the director, and the casting director for the film I’m Not There, which was inspired by the life and songs of American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. In the film, Ledger portrayed a
Actor and friend of Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal has today made a personal statement on the loss of his friend.
In the statement, which was released by his publicist Mara Buxbaum, Gyllenhaal said: “Heath was an extremely inspiring, courageous and truly beautiful person that came into my life and shared so much with me in such a short time.”
“This is an incredibly difficult time for those who knew and loved Heath, and I ask that you please respect their privacy at this time.”
Ledger was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday. The cause of death has not been determined.
Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in his New York apartment. I can’t believe it.
Heath was a great actor and he will be missed. I’m still shocked by his death, I don’t even know what to say. We hope that Heath’s family and friends can find peace during these difficult times.
Rest In Peace Heath Ledger
In Australia, we have a tradition of making fun of ourselves and our culture. It’s not a malicious undermining of the Australian way of life. More often it is used to make light of the situation or even to mock a particular kind of person. Likewise, it’s important that people are able to laugh at themselves.
When I was growing up in Perth, there wasn’t much of a film industry (or an acting industry). A rising star was someone who had landed a job doing an ad for Jim Beam or Petersons ice cream. The idea that anyone could make a living as an actor was far fetched and those that did were always seen as having somehow cheated their way into stardom. It was this attitude that Heath Ledger has used to his advantage when he returned from Hollywood after the success of Ten Things I Hate About You.
Heath’s star power allowed him to develop his own ideas on screen and select roles that would allow him to grow as an actor. He has made some great choices and some not so great choices. One thing is sure though, he has never taken the easy option or compromised his art for money or fame. A lot has been made about Heath taking roles in commercial films such as A Knight’s Tale because it allowed him
