A blog about what a person like Don Draper would do with his spare time if he were a real person.
Don Draper is the fictional lead character of the AMC television series Mad Men—a show about advertising executives in New York City in the 1960s.
I wish to call your attention to a very important blog, What Don Draper Does With His Spare Time. This blog is written by a real person, who is not in any sense Don Draper (except for the smoking, drinking and womanizing). But, the author of this blog publishes posts that document the kind of things Don Draper would do with his spare time if he were a real person.
Recently, the author published a post entitled “Don Draper Invents the Safety Match.” In this post, it is explained that Don Draper invents the safety match while trying to invent something else. He had been trying to invent a way to open sardine cans using only his teeth and his underwear. As usual, he is frustrated by his inability to make much progress on this project and decides to take up another hobby for a few days. So he invents the safety match instead.
If you are a person living in the United States of America and reading this blog, you are probably familiar with the Don Draper character from the AMC television series Mad Men. You may also be familiar with Don Draper’s off-screen alter ego, Jon Hamm, who has had significant roles in many films and television shows.
What is less well known about Jon Hamm is that he is almost certainly a real human being. As with most people who are real human beings, we can assume the following things:
1. He lives somewhere
2. He has a car (or access to one)
3. He does things with his spare time
We can’t get enough of Mad Men, AMC’s new show about the advertising world in 1960’s New York. Our favorite character is Don Draper, the creative director at Sterling Cooper. If he were a real person, we bet he would have a great blog. Here are some posts we’d like to see:
