van dessel actor: a blog around the van dessel brand and its actors.

If you follow cycling, you’ve probably heard of Van Dessel Sports. If you don’t, but ride bikes, you should. Here’s why:

Van Dessel believes in the power of play—the idea that fun is the reason we do something and should be infused in everything we do. I have my own personal philosophy on this topic that I’ll share at the end of this article (if you can hold out). For now, let’s focus on the fun that Van Dessel is bringing to cycling.

In an industry that has become too serious for its own good, Van Dessel is a brand that plays—and rides—by a different set of rules. And plays well with others. The company was founded in 2007 by Edwin Bull, an athlete who started out as a swimmer but took up cycling when he got injured. He went on to become one of Belgium’s top triathletes and Ironman All World athletes before retiring from competition in 2007 and moving to New Jersey to found Van Dessel Sports.

Edwin eventually returned to his native Belgium and turned over day-to-day leadership of Van Dessel to his wife Colleen C

Wim van Dessel

CEO

I’m Wim, the founder of van dessel. In 1996 I started my first job and quickly became fascinated by the web. I founded a small company and created websites for clients all around the world. After a few years I was able to sell this company and I started van dessel.

In those days we were not much more than a group of friends, but we succeed in growing our team and our client base. Nowadays we have a team of 20 people that work on projects large and small.

In 2012 I made the decision to sell my shares in van dessel so that I could start a new adventure, but it turned out that I was not ready to leave the company yet. Luckily enough, van dessel was willing to buy me back :-).

I love cycling and spend a lot of time on my bike: road-, mountain- or cyclocross bike, it doesn’t matter as long as it has two wheels!

Van Dessel is a Belgian brand of bicycles that focuses on racing. This blog is written by me, Wim Van Dessel, the founder of the company and its current CEO.

After graduating as an industrial engineer in 1994, I started working at Lezyne, a company mainly dealing with cycle accessories. In June 2004, I decided to stop working for someone else and started my own brand of bicycles. In the beginning, it was just me, focused on building up a nice brand. My wife joined me in 2005 and we started marketing our bikes. Our first collection was based on the Giant TCR Advanced SL and consisted of about 20 bikes. In 2006 we sold about 130 bikes in Belgium. We quickly noticed that we had to buy more than one bike from Giant if we wanted to fulfill orders from shops in other countries as well…

Since then, our brand has grown considerably. Currently we are selling our bikes in 14 countries and have built up a nice distribution network around the world. From the beginning, we always tried to get feedback from riders who actually rode our bikes and listened carefully when they told us what they liked and didn’t like about our products! One of those riders was Sven Nys who gave us some good ideas for our cyclo-cross frames

I am Joe. I am an active member of the Van Dessel cycling family and have been a sponsored racer since 2012. This blog aims to inform you about the Van Dessel brand, its products and to provide a first-person account of my experiences as an ambassador for this great company.

Van Dessel was founded in 2007 by two passionate cyclists; Wim “The Belgian Waffle” van Dessel and his wife, Amy. They are based in New Jersey, USA and have quickly become renowned in the cycling community for their quality products and innovative designs that have been developed through their hands-on experience as racers, riding enthusiasts and commuters.

I got to know Wim through racing cyclocross and had admired his efforts in the industry prior to that as he was one of the pioneers of the so-called “cross-specific” bike (i.e.: a bike designed specifically for cyclocross racing). In fact, it was a Van Dessel bike with which I won my first national championship title back in 2011!

I became a part of the Van Dessel family when I visited the US for some cross racing during the fall of 2011. Wim decided to support me with a bike for these races (

I’m a designer, photographer, and cycling enthusiast. I am also the owner of van dessel bicycles.

I’ve been riding bikes for most of my life. I started in my teens just for fun and managed to stay on the bike long enough to cover a few miles along the way. It became a lifestyle that in 2003 turned into a career: designing and building performance racing bicycles.

Since 2007, we’ve been producing van dessel bicycles out of our factory in Lincoln, Nebraska. Our goal is to build bikes that are fun to ride and built for everyone who wants to get on a bike.. Read more about Paul Van Dessel
