1.Arrive Early

By arriving early, you will not feel rushed, and you can use the extra time to get comfortable with your surroundings. For example, use the restroom (trust me, you don’t want to have to ask for a break in the middle of a test section), or find out where there are water fountains, or what room you need to report to for breaks. Find out where the proctor or test administrator is sitting.

2.Break for Breaks

When you take an ACT test that lasts over 3 hours, it is a good idea to take a break when one is offered. For test takers who are used to taking standardized tests like the SAT or PSAT that are 3 hours long, this may seem like a waste of time. However, taking a break during an ACT test will actually benefit you on Test Day because it gives your brain some down time and allows you to focus better when you return to the test.

3.Don’t Rush

It seems obvious that rushing through questions can lead to mistakes; however, many students do not realize that rushing can also cause them to miss easier questions or even entire passages!

1. Arrive on Time and Relax

Be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled testing time to ensure you have plenty of time to get situated. Leave early enough so that you don’t have to rush or worry about traffic or parking delays. Bring a snack and some water with you so that you have something to eat if you get hungry during the exam. Once in the testing room, take a few deep breaths to relax your body and mind before starting the exam. Some people find it helpful to listen to music before beginning a test as a way of reducing anxiety and increasing concentration. Whatever strategy you choose, be sure that it works for you!

2. Read Instructions Carefully

Read all instructions carefully before beginning a section or subsection of the exam. If there is anything unclear, ask the proctor for clarification before starting the test. Remember to budget your time wisely throughout each section of the exam by reading through all questions

By now, you should be in the final stages of preparing for your ACT. Your score will largely depend on how well you perform on test day, so practicing good test-taking habits is essential. Here are my top 5 tips to help make sure you do your absolute best on test day.

1) Get a good night’s sleep the night before you take the ACT. It may sound obvious, but it can’t be stressed enough! While we have all pulled an all-nighter at some point – do not do this the night before your ACT! You need to be awake and alert for the entire test, and being well rested will help you start out in the best possible position.

2) Eat a good breakfast before your test. Again, this may seem obvious, but there is no reason not to eat a good breakfast that morning – maybe even one with a little extra sugar in it – to give yourself a boost during those first few sections! Plus, eating breakfast is a healthy habit that will help you in many other ways throughout your life!

3) Do not drink any caffeinated beverages right before or during the test. I know we just suggested eating a sugary breakfast, but don’t go overboard on caffeine!

There could also be traffic or weather conditions that might delay your trip—so it’s better to leave early than risk showing up late. If you end up arriving too early, just stay in the car until it’s closer to testing time.

In order to have a successful test day, you need to make sure you have everything with you that you will need. You will need to have your ACT Student web account username/password, your ID,

1. Be prepared. This can mean a lot of things, but most importantly be prepared for the length of the test, the time constraints, and the types of questions you will face.

2. Know your calculator. Get to know your calculator and its functions well before test day so that you are comfortable using it during the exam.

3. Use process of elimination. If you’re not sure about an answer, use process of elimination to figure out which answer choice is not correct and then select the best answer from among those remaining.

4. Read carefully, think critically! The ACT asks all kinds of questions that require critical thinking, so read carefully and think critically to eliminate incorrect answer choices and hone in on the correct one.

5. You may guess/skip questions! If you’re running out of time or stuck on a question, don’t waste too much time trying to work through it – just guess and move on!
