Colin Firth is best known for his role as Mr Darcy in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, which was broadcast in 1995. He has gone on to star in many films including Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and Love Actually (2003). In 2010 he starred alongside Geoffrey Rush in The King’s Speech which earned him an Oscar for Best Actor.

More often than not, British actors seem to own Hollywood. Whether it’s a blockbuster film or a hit TV show, it’s not unusual for the leading role to be played by a Brit. Bonham Carter is the most recent British actress to make this list having only just made her debut in America in 1995 with the movie Mighty Aphrodite. Since then, she has starred in over 30 movies including Fight Club, Harry Potter and The King’s Speech for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

Colin Firth has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors winning acclaim for his roles in everything from romantic comedies such as Bridget Jones’s Diary to historical dramas like The King’s Speech which earned him an Academy Award. Helena Bonham Carter is one of the most successful British actors working today, and also one of the most recognizable. She was born in London in 1966, and is a three-time Academy Award nominee and two-time BAFTA winner.
She got her start as a young child with several small roles in film and television, but her breakthrough came in 1988 with the release of A Room with a View. Since then she has appeared in dozens of films, including A Dangerous Method, Harry Potter, The King’s Speech, Fight Club, Big Fish, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Alice in Wonderland.
She has also worked extensively on stage, and she continues to appear regularly on screen.

Peyton’s A Pattern of Roses before winning her first film role as the titular character in Lady Jane (1986). Her breakthrough role was Lucy Honeychurch in A Room with a View (1985), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Bonham Carter achieved renown through her portrayal of Kate Croy in The Wings of the Dove (1997), for which she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and her performance as Marla Singer in Fight Club (1999).
She also received acclaim for her roles in period dramas such as Howards End (1992) and The King’s Speech (2010). Bonham Carter has collaborated with director Tim Burton on several films, including Planet of the Apes (2001), Big Fish (2003), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Alice in Wonderland (2010), and Dark Shadows (2012).
She played the role of Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as well as its two-part conclusion.
