It’s that time of year again: the time when we all get to see our favorite TV shows and films represented on the Red Carpet. Awards shows like the Golden Globes, Grammys, and Oscars are held at this time each year, which means they are attended by some of the biggest stars in the world. If you have recently begun to work in Hollywood there is a good chance you will be attending your first major awards show this season. For those who have never been to an awards show before, it can seem daunting and overwhelming. The following is a short guide for first time event attendees that should help you make it through your first Red Carpet experience with style and grace.

Tip

As a publicist, one of the questions I’m often asked by first time attendees to awards shows and red carpet events is “Do you have any advice on what I should wear?” The answer is yes: I think it’s important to remember these are red carpet events and not nightclubs. Although fashion choices are certainly subjective, I’ve witnessed many young women coming to a red carpet event in evening dresses that looked more appropriate for a night out on the town. In my opinion, the best way to approach it is to keep the length of your dress longer (floor length), since the cameras will be shooting close up. For example, if you’re attending an Academy Awards party, try something like this elegant gown. On the other hand, if you’re going to a movie premiere where your goal is to get noticed by photographers and bloggers alike, try something more edgy like this dress from Alexander McQueen. And don’t forget about color! Bold colors such as purple and coral have been trending on the red carpet this season so if you feel comfortable wearing them, go for it!

Some other key things to remember when attending these events is that there will be cameras everywhere, so make sure you look your best. Have great posture and avoid slouching because those photos

The red carpet is a long, narrow rug or carpet that is usually placed in front of a stage. It’s often used as a metaphor for the glamorous lifestyle associated with the entertainment industry. A red carpet event is typically a special occasion such as movie premieres, award ceremonies and fashion shows. At these events, celebrities or VIPs walk along the red carpet to get to the event, where they are often interviewed by reporters.

The red carpet has become the place for celebrities to show off their latest looks and premiere new fashions. But it’s also important to remember that red-carpet appearances are part of a larger picture: They’re an opportunity to promote a film, television show or album. And while they may appear effortless, they can take months of preparation.

Whether you’re attending your first red-carpet event or you’ve been on the scene for years, here are some tips to help you make the most of your appearance:

The Oscars are coming up this weekend, so we thought we’d give you some tips on what to do if you’re going to a red carpet event for the first time.

1. You can never be too overdressed.

At a red carpet event the worst-dressed person there is often the one who is under dressed. If you don’t know what the dress code is, it doesn’t hurt to be overdressed. Wear something that makes you feel like a million bucks!

2. Keep it simple (but not boring).

Avoid trendy pieces and opt for classic silhouettes that won’t look dated a year from now. Don’t be afraid to accessorize but make sure your accessories don’t steal the spotlight from your outfit. A statement necklace can add flair to your look without taking all of the attention away from your dress, and if done right it can even enhance your look and create more balance.

3. The fit of your outfit is more important than anything else.

A good tailor can work wonders, so get things tailored if necessary! If you don’t have time for tailoring, buy things that are close enough in fit and alter them yourself–it’s easier than you think!

4. Makeup should always be natural

You’ve received your invitation, you’ve bought your ticket, you’re all set for red carpet season. But are you really ready for the red carpet?

You may have your dress designed and picked out, but what about the rest of the prep work? Here are a few tips to keep in mind when preparing for any red carpet event.

What is your goal?

No matter how excited you are to be attending an event or party, it’s essential that you understand why you’re actually going to the party. Are you there to network with other guests, or is it a social opportunity? What are you hoping to get out of attending this event? Once you know your purpose and goal, it will help guide your preparation.

Know Your Audience

Make sure that before attending a red carpet event, that you understand who will be there. Knowing who will be at the party beforehand will help guide the preparation for your outfit (as well as letting you know if there might be someone there that would be worth meeting). If it’s a premiere, check IMDB and look up the cast list; if it’s an industry party check their website for a list of attendees (if they have one). Not only will this help prepare you in case there

For many of us, the idea of attending a celebrity event with the potential to run into a famous person is an exciting proposition. Usually, red carpet events are reserved for celebrities, but there are many ways to attend these types of events as non-celebrity attendees.

The most difficult part in preparing for a red carpet event is the outfit. Many do not want to wear something that will be considered “over the top,” but also don’t want to wear something that will be considered “underdressed.” With this in mind, it is important to consider what type of event you are attending and how you can stand out without being too loud or too boring.

For example, if you have been invited to a movie premiere, then being overdressed may be acceptable. However, if you have been invited to a charity ball where people are donating money to a cause and not necessarily trying to promote themselves or their businesses, then it is best not to stand out too much.

The red carpet is a daunting place to be, especially if you’re an up-and-coming actor. In addition to the paparazzi and the fans and the questions, there are also the swarms of people who want to get a shot of you on their Instagram. But don’t worry. We asked Schreiber, whose big break was his starring role in HBO’s drama Ray Donovan, for some pointers on how to prepare for your first time walking the red carpet:

1. Don’t let anyone tell you what to wear. “Find something that makes you feel good about yourself,” says Schreiber. “If it’s uncomfortable or if there’s one small thing that makes you feel self conscious, then don’t do it.”

2. Be prepared to answer a lot of questions about your outfit. “I always feel like I’m being tested,” he says. “They’re going to ask me who I’m wearing and how many carats my cufflinks are.”

3. Choose someone who will tell you the truth about how you look in your chosen outfit. “You need a guy—or girl—who will give you their honest opinion,” he says. “You want someone who will tell you if
