How To Get Auditions as an Actor: a blog about audition tips and how to increase your chances of being seen.
Auditioning is hard, especially when you’re just starting out. Even when you’re a veteran, it’s sometimes difficult to get in front of the right people. We created this site because we want to help actors get more auditions and book more jobs. Our mission is to help you find the right opportunities and help you make the most of them by providing audition tips and other techniques. We hope that this website will be a valuable tool to all actors out there looking for work!
How do actors get auditions? As an actor myself, I get asked this question all the time. Actors want to know everything from what it takes to get in the door at certain casting offices to how actors increase their chances of being seen by casting directors.
The first and most important thing to know is what happens to your headshot and resume once it arrives at a casting office. Your photo and resume is placed in a general file or database of actors that have submitted for that particular project.
The casting director does not see your photo unless he or she specifically requests it from the assistant. They do not have time to look through a giant pile of headshots (even if they are organized alphabetically) so if you want to be seen, you need to submit yourself in person by attending an open call or going on a go-see.
I am an actor and I have been actively pursuing an acting career for the past four years. I’ve had some success, but I have also learned that getting auditions is very difficult.
This blog is a record of everything I have learned about auditioning to date… from how to find auditions, how to get your picture and resume into the hands of casting directors, how to stand out in a crowd, how to prepare for an audition and so on. My goal is to help other actors avoid frustration by sharing what I know about navigating this industry.
I am not an expert (yet) and this is still a work in progress. Anything you read here should be taken with a grain of salt and confirmed with other sources. Please feel free to comment with tips or suggestions for future blog posts!
The title of this blog post is a bit misleading. Iβm not really going to tell you how to get auditions, but I will tell you how to increase your chances of getting auditions.
Before we begin, here are a few things that will not help you get auditions:
– ~~Getting an agent~~
I’ve been a working actor since I was 17. I’ve worked in ALL forms of media, and been lucky enough to be able to make a career out of it. In the process, I have learned many valuable lessons about the business, auditioning and myself as an actor.
I HOPE that you find the information on this blog helpful and encouraging! And remember, even if you don’t get the part, NEVER STOP TRYING!
All the best,
Michael
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
If you want to work as an actor, you must audition. Auditioning is the only way to get work as a professional actor. To some actors, auditions are just a necessary evil… something that sometimes gets in the way of “real” acting. But I think that’s the wrong attitude. Instead, I believe that auditioning is one of the most important skills an actor needs to develop in order to succeed in this business. After all, if you can’t get called in for an audition, you can’t even hope to get considered for a role!
In this series of articles, I’ll share the techniques and strategies I’ve developed over many years as an actor and acting coach. My goal is simple: To help you increase your chances of getting cast in any role you pursue!
You know how when you get a cold, it’s kind of hard to tell what’s what? Well, I’ve been sick for about a week now and my body has gone crazy. My stomach is all messed up, I’m constantly tired, and my ears are constantly plugged. This made me feel like I was losing my voice but then I decided it was just allergies so I kept drinking water and trying to take care of myself. Well, it turns out last night that I lost my voice completely after being on the phone with friends for a few hours. So now I’m feeling like death, can’t hear anything, can barely speak and am fighting off this cold/flu/whatever.
On the bright side, today is my last day of finals! The end is in sight people!! If you’re still studying, hang in there! The sun will shine again soon!
