I have been an actress for as long as I can remember. My mother was an actress and my father was a director. While I am not sure how much I understood what they did at the time, it has always been clear to me that there was a clear division between the two of them: my mother was in-front-of-the-camera, and my father behind it.

It took me quite a while to realise that acting wasn’t just about standing in front of the camera. As a teenager, I remember learning that actors were there to recreate life on stage or film, and trying to decide whether this would be something that I could do myself. It wasn’t until I became well read on the subject that I realised acting had so many different facets.

When I began thinking about what kind of career path to follow, I realised how lucky I was to have parents who were both involved in the industry. My father had made sure that he had forged strong relationships with many producers and directors (as well as their agents), and my mother had quickly established herself as an up and coming starlet.

I thought long and hard about whether acting was something that I wanted to pursue…

I’ve been a professional actor for twenty years, and I still get the same rush of excitement and fear every time I start a job. Being an actor is like walking a tightrope between confidence and complete panic, and it’s not something you get used to.

The thing is, I love what I do. It’s a privilege to earn your living by doing something so imaginative and creative. But my job can be pretty stressful: after years of training, when I step on set it feels like I’m starting again from scratch. The role may be physically demanding; you’re working long hours in front of a camera; you have to remember your lines while hitting marks and listening to other actors’ dialogue at the same time; and you have to bring emotions to life that don’t necessarily come naturally. All this while knowing that once filming is over, you might have to turn around and do it again from another angle. And then there’s the fact that once your performance has been edited together, almost no one will ever see you act in quite the same way again; they’ll only see the final version on screen.

I wasn’t always able to cope with all this pressure – but now I can. It’s all about having the right attitude, so I

I’ve been acting since I was a child, and it’s always been my favorite hobby. I started out performing in local theater productions, but before long I started getting cast in small film roles. The more I acted, the more I wanted to act, and soon it became my passion. One day, I hope to perform on Broadway or in a major motion picture.**
