As a kid, I got into acting because of my love for movies and TV. I was fascinated by the characters, but particularly the actors that played them. I would spend hours watching movies, even if they were terrible, just to see my favourite actors again and again.
It wasn’t until I started acting myself that I learned about character actors. They are the unsung heroes of entertainment: the lesser known, but essential, actors in main stream media.
I have written this blog from a character actor’s perspective so you, too, can appreciate all the work that goes into playing a character with depth and importance.
This blog is dedicated to the unsung heroes of entertainment. The character actors who never get the limelight, but are essential to every film, television show or play they are a part of.
From Frances McDormand’s Oscar-winning performance as Marge Gunderson in Fargo, to Michael Chiklis’ Emmy-winning role as Detective Vic Mackey in The Shield, character actors are the people that make a great film or television show truly brilliant and unforgettable.
I have always been interested in these actors, who are often recognized by their faces and not by their names. When I was a little boy my father would point out these “character actors” to me on TV (this was before we had TIVO or DVRs – we had to watch commercials!) and tell me their names. I still don’t know if he knew their names for sure, or was just making them up for fun. But it got me hooked on trying to figure out who these familiar looking people were in each show we watched together. This is why I have started this blog: to dig deep into the world of these amazing artists and explore what makes them so good at what they do.
Character actors are the unsung heroes of entertainment. They are the actors that show up in your favorite movies and television shows, but are never credited or hardly noticed. These are the actors that do not get their names in bold letters on top of the movie poster, but rather they might be recognized by a few people familiar with their work.
These actors are the ones that play a pivotal role in television and movies, but are rarely recognized for it. Most of these actors have been in hundreds of different productions over the years, but because most people do not know their names, they cannot be given credit for their contributions to media as a whole.
That is why this blog exists: to give these unsung heroes some recognition. By reading through this blog, you can see how important some of these character actors truly are, and learn to recognize them when you watch your favorite movies or television shows.
Character actors are the often unsung heroes of mainstream media. Their faces may not be as widely known as their more mainstream counterparts, but they do a lot of the dirty work by playing some of the most memorable characters in film, tv and voice acting.
We all know who Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Will Smith are. We recognize their faces and even if we can’t name their movies, we know that they’ve been in a lot of them. They are the leading men and women of Hollywood: they get the big paychecks and they get the glory.
And then there’s everybody else; that second tier of actors who have been in everything yet seem to go mostly unnoticed. This is where you find the character actors. These are people like Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Mindy Kaling, Christopher Walken, Sarah Jessica Parker and Clancy Brown: actors who you may not know by name but whose faces you recognize when you see them on screen.
They’re essential to entertainment because they make up the bulk of it: without character actors we’d be left with only leads and extras. In one movie alone there can be hundreds of character actors playing dozens of different roles. They’re also important because they help
Character actors are the unsung heroes of Hollywood. They are the people who bring the script to life, without whom every film would be a disaster. They are the actors that have been typecast, or have become so well known for one role that they can never escape it, or even remember having done anything else. Character Actors are the people behind the scenes who make an actor’s career what it is today: they are the ones who make him look good onscreen.
The word “character” refers to a personality trait that makes a person recognizable and unique. A character actor’s job is to portray a character in such a way that he or she gives them life and makes them believable as human beings. It’s not easy being a character actor, but when done right it can be an incredibly rewarding experience for both parties involved.
Character actors are the unsung heroes of Hollywood. They are the actors that are not the big names, but they still shine on camera.
The Oscars and Golden Globes have always been focused on the main actors, directors and producers. The awards given to those in supporting roles are not enough recognition for those who truly deserve it.
Even the most recognizable character actors go unnoticed, even though they are a big part of many popular movies or TV shows. Some of these actors would not be as well known if it were not for these support roles.
A character actor is usually an actor who specializes in playing unusual or eccentric characters. The term, often contrasted with that of leading actor, is somewhat abstract and open to interpretation but generally suggests a performer who plays a wide range of supporting character roles rather than leading roles.
If you were to tune into any television show, watch any movie, or play through any video game, you would be able to identify the stars of said medium. The names are plastered across posters and billboards for all to see, and often times the stars are all you will know about. As a dedicated fan of many entertainment media, I have always considered the supporting characters and roles very intriguing. They may not get their names in lights but they are often the key to a good production.
In this blog I will discuss my favorite supporting actors in films, TV shows and games that I enjoy. These individuals may not get the credit they deserve, but they will be here on this blog, where they can be celebrated for their work.
