5 Tips to Become an Actor in Film, TV, or Theatre
My name is Freeman Williams and I’m a film and television actor. I’ve been acting for about 10 years and I’ve worked on such shows as The Newsroom, American Horror Story, Dexter and many others. A lot of people ask me how to get started acting so here are my five tips:
1. Study acting: Take classes. Read books and watch films with great actors.
2. Get involved in theatre: Theatre is the best place to start learning your craft as an actor. You will learn how to create a character, how to speak clearly and project your voice, learn how to tell a story using only your body, how to work with other actors and the director, etc. Films and TV are very collaborative but you will have more one-on-one time with the director than you would in theatre so it’s important that you have all these basic skills already in place before you start auditioning for film/TV roles.
3. Create your own content: Make a short film! Write a monologue or dialogue scene with another actor and film it on your phone or computer webcam! Put it on YouTube (or any other video sharing site) and share it with friends

In this blog post, we’ll outline five tips to help you get started as an actor.
1) Take Acting Lessons
You don’t need to go to drama school or even spend a lot of money on lessons to improve your acting craft. There are many different classes offered at varying pricepoints that will enhance your skills and make you more marketable as an actor. You can also find online courses specifically designed for actors which will help you hone your craft from home. The point is that if you want to succeed in this business, it’s going to take time and effort but it is possible with dedication!
2) Learn How To Be “On Camera”
The most important thing that aspiring actors need to know is how they should present themselves when they’re filming something or onstage performing live theater such as Shakespearean plays (which are often very long). It might sound
I was an actor for over a decade before I became a full-time writer. Because of this, I’ve been asked many times to give advice about how to “make it” in the entertainment industry. I always say that these tips are ineffective unless you are willing to work hard and dedicate your life to your craft.
Here are five things you need if you want to become an actor:
1. A Headshot: This is a professional photo of you that casting directors will use to decide whether or not they might consider you for a role. You’ll need one of these even if you don’t live in Hollywood; there’s always e-mail and Skype auditions nowadays.
2. Resume: This is a list of all of the acting jobs you’ve done (and other relevant skills). Most actors list their height, weight, hair color, eye color, etc on the back of their headshots as well.
3. Training: You can get training at acting schools or colleges (or both). These days, most actors in television and film have either gone to college for theater or have trained with private coaches/companies like The Groundlings and Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. Training is important because it teaches you how to
