5. My name is Moriarty Actor
Moriarty: villain, nemesis, the ultimate criminal mastermind. Moriarty is always a little bit more than just a villain, though. He’s a character with depth, with motives and feelings beyond “I want to destroy this hero.” There are a lot of ways to develop that character, and as such, there have been many different actors who have played him over the years.
Here are five of my most famous appearances as Moriarty.
The 2009 film Sherlock Holmes features Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Mark Strong as Moriarty. It’s a good example of how not to do it: Strong’s performance is very flat and boring. His appearance in the 2011 sequel was much better (see below).
In the 2010 TV series Sherlock, Andrew Scott plays Moriarty with an interesting mix of charisma and creepiness; he’s almost like a dandy version of Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight (“If you’re good at something, never do it for free,” etc.). It seems like there should be more to his performance than that(the way he says ‘Mr. Holmes’ is particularly creepy), but I’m not sure what it is. The fourth thing that you should know about me is that i will be playing the character of James Moriarty in the new Sherlock Holmes movie with Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr.!
The fifth and final thing that you should know about me is that i love acting and being on set is always so much fun!
