Title: 5 Moriarty Quotes You Should Know By Heart
Moriarty is the most infamous villain in all of fiction. He is the epitome of evil and genius. And he happens to be one of my favorite characters as well. Moriarty makes his first appearance in the second season of Sherlock and is played by Andrew Scott.
1. You may not have heard of me, but I assure you, I have heard of you.

2. I am a consulting criminal,
Sherlock is a British crime television series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories. Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson. This blog is about 5 Moriarty quotes from the Sherlock Series you should know by heart!
1. The First Rule of Moriarty
“It takes brains to make millions, but it takes double the brains at my level to stay alive.”
With the recent release of Sherlock’s second season on DVD and Blu-ray, it is a good time to look back at five quotes from the Moriarty character played by Andrew Scott and remember what made him so memorable.
The first quote, and possibly the most famous quote of all, is “Are you crazy?” This is a classic line because it gets right to the heart of most people’s problems with Moriarty. He appears to be crazy at times but he is also very intelligent and capable of making plans that fool everyone around him.
Another classic quote from Moriarty is “What do you think I am? A sociopath?” This quote comes from the episode where Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) tries to figure out how Moriarty was able to steal a painting that has been in his family for generations without anyone noticing.
The third best quote from Moriarty is “I always know what you’re thinking.” This one comes from the episode where Sherlock and Watson (Martin Freeman) are trying to figure out how Moriarty could have gotten away with stealing an entire collection of paintings from an art gallery in London without anyone seeing him do so or even knowing about it until after he had left England.
Sherlock is a popular crime drama television series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories. Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson.
The series is set in the present day, while the one-off special features a Victorian period fantasy resembling the original Holmes stories. Sherlock is a co-production of the British network BBC and WGBH Boston for its Masterpiece anthology series along with Hartswood Films, with Moffat, Gatiss, Sue Vertue and Rebecca Eaton serving as executive producers.
“I’m going to burn the heart out of you.” – Jim Moriarty
One of my favorite quotes from season 2 because it shows how much he hates Sherlock. He will do anything to get under his skin and make his life hell. It scares me that I love Moriarty so much… He’s an awesome villain!
“You’re going to be an excellent henchman.” – Jim Moriarty
The statement that makes us want to say “what?” Out of nowhere Moriarty just randomly says that to a random guy who did nothing but talk on the phone with him. If we had been that man we would have been like “hey thanks!”
“I’m a high-functioning sociopath, do your research.” – Sherlock
This quote is probably one of the most famous ones in the series and you must have heard it even if you haven’t seen it. Sherlock Holmes is an amazing show, and this quote (and others) are what make it so much fun to watch!
I love how Moriarty says that he’s a “high-functioning sociopath, do your research” because even though he pretends to be a good person, we know that he is actually evil!
The reason why I think this quote is so memorable is that it shows how Moriarty doesn’t care about anything except himself. He has no morals or scruples; all he cares about is getting what he wants without regard for other people’s feelings or needs. In this way, Moriarty seems very similar to Sherlock himself– they both use their intelligence as an excuse to ignore other people and focus only on themselves. The two of them are both brilliant but also selfish in their own ways– they just happen to use different methods of using their brains for evil purposes instead!
The best part about this quote though may be when Moriarty
You’ve heard of Moriarty, haven’t you? Oh, you must have done, even down here. The Napoleon of crime, the organizer of half that is evil and of nearly all that is undetected in this great city. He sits motionless, like a spider in the center of its web, but that web has a thousand radiations and he knows well every quiver of each of them. He does little himself. He only plans. But his agents are numerous and splendidly organized. Is there a crime to be done, a paper to be abstracted, we will say, a house to be rifled, a man to be removed–the word is passed to the Professor, the matter is organized and carried out. The agent may be caught. In that case money is found for his bail or his defense. But the central power which uses the agent is never caught–never so much as suspected.
Now you understand how it was that I could say to you, on that night when first I came to Baker Street and told you my details: “I tell you that her danger is imminent.” Its approach was sure as the paths of the planets. Moriarty ruled by craft not force; if he ruled at all except in the imagination of his
