The Arkansas Cinema Society is offering a range of exciting programs for film enthusiasts of all levels. The ACS Night School, which will run from September to November, will cover topics such as acting, directing, and musical scoring. The classes will be held at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, located at 501 E. Ninth St., Little Rock.
Acting Classes
- “Acting for Film + Television,” September 10 – October 29, designed for adults (18 and older) with some prior experience in theater or film. Actor and filmmaker Raeden Greer will cover scene work, script analysis, character development and the business side of film and TV acting. Tuition is $200. Register at arkansascinemasociety.org/programs/acting-for-film-tv—fall-2025.
- “Directorial Style: David Lynch + Wes Anderson,” September 3 – 24. University of Arkansas at Little Rock faculty member and Arkansas Cinema Society resident curator Chris Robinson examines the directorial styles of two men “who have worked outside the cookie-cutter Hollywood mainstream with films that are sometimes quirky and sometimes horrifying,” according to a news release. The class will examine Lynch’s style and techniques, plus stories of what went on behind the camera, and look at films including “Eraserhead,” “Blue Velvet” and Lynch’s version of “Dune.” Anderson films on the docket include “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Rushmore” and “The French Dispatch.” Tuition is $100. Register at arkansascinemasociety.org/programs/directorial-style-david-lynch-wes-anderson.
- “Why Film Scores Matter,” October 8 – 29. Central Arkansas-based violinist, composer and film director Dustin Yoder focuses on film scoring in an age dominated by artificial intelligence and extensive music libraries. “Students will venture through genres, cultures, philosophical points-of-views and the existential question of whether original, tailored film scores are even needed to tell a rich and compelling narrative,” according to the news release; they’ll analyze iconic films and their scores, interact with musicians and engage with various instruments and mediums of sound. Tuition is $100. Register at arkansascinemasociety.org/programs/why-film-scores-matter.
