With Film Releases, TV Shows and More On the Horizon, We Celebrate Our Favorite Canadian Actresses.
It’s no secret that we’re obsessed with our northern neighbor’s finest exports: maple syrup and poutine, Drake and Ryan Gosling-but especially the ladies. Whether they’re world famous or just about to be, these actresses have made us laugh, cry and swoon on the regular. In honor of Canada Day on July 1st, we’re celebrating our favorite Canadian actresses.
1: Rachel McAdams:
When it comes to sweet girl-next-door types, there’s no one like Rachel McAdams. The native of London Ontario (she was born in Canada’s smallest city) has come a long way from her days as Regina George in Mean Girls to her grown up roles in films like Wedding Crashers (with fellow Canadian Ryan Gosling) and The Notebook.
Canadian actresses are making a splash in Hollywood and we are celebrating! Some of our favorite Canadian actresses include Rachel McAdams, Ellen Page, Evangeline Lilly, Nina Dobrev and more. With film releases, TV shows and more on the horizon, we celebrate our favorite Canadian actresses.

As we all know, Canada is chock-full of talented women — so much so that it’s hard to keep track of them all. From Tatiana Maslany to Ellen Page to Rachel McAdams, the Great White North has given us some truly spectacular actresses.
In honor of Canada Day, we’re taking a look at what our favorite Canadian actresses have been up to in the past year, including notable film and TV roles.
Rachel McAdams
The actress has an impressive lineup of upcoming films: “Doctor Strange,” “Game Night,” “Disobedience” and “Every Thing Will Be Fine.” She can also be seen in HBO’s hit series “True Detective.”
Sandra Oh, Tatiana Maslany, Ellen Page and more: These are our favorite Canadian actresses.
Sandra Oh
The “Grey’s Anatomy” alum can next be seen in the comedy “Catfight,” from director Onur Tukel. In the film, Oh plays Lisa, a former high school friend of Veronica (Anne Heche), who she meets by chance after many years at a party. Though they’ve grown apart over the years and have different outlooks on life, they reignite their friendship as they drunkenly insult each other at the party. The film premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
Oh can also be seen later this year in the thriller “Window Horses” and drama “Funny Story.”
The Canadian Entertainment Scene has been on fire lately, and it seems like it’s only getting hotter. With so many talented up-and-comers coming out of Canada right now, it’s hard to keep track of all the rising stars.
Here at The Daily Dot, we’ve been keeping a close eye on these hot new actresses.
Here’s a brief history of Canadian cinema: in 2008, Ryan Gosling made his directorial debut with Lost River. The movie was about a mother who tries to save her family by joining a club that features women who have their teeth pulled out for the enjoyment of some wealthy men.
So, Canadian cinema is weird as hell. You know that already. But you probably didn’t know that there are some great Canadian actresses who have been causing quite a stir lately.
First up, Rachel McAdams! McAdams has been on the scene for quite some time now and has starred in films like Mean Girls, The Notebook, and Wedding Crashers, but she hasn’t been getting much attention recently.
That might be because she’s busy starring in True Detective alongside Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. She plays the wife of Farrell’s character, Ray Velcoro, and her performance is getting rave reviews.
