Termites have been in the news lately, and for good reason. Termites can cause significant damage to your home and other structures on your property. In some cases, termite damage is not covered by homeowner’s insurance. That is why it is very important to have regular inspections by a qualified professional to make sure that you do not have termites or termite damage.
Even if you have never had termites, it is important to have regular inspections because termites are prevalent in many locations around the country. Some types of termites may be more common in your area than others but there are over 2,000 species of termites in the world and approximately 45 different species in the United States. You can find additional information about these destructive insects here.
We recommend that you schedule your initial inspection at least once per year. Following that first inspection we recommend bi-monthly inspections for the first three months then quarterly inspections after that first year. The specific frequency of inspections will depend on several factors including:
The type of construction used for your home or other buildings on your property (wood frame, brick veneer, etc.).
The type of wood used
It is important to have a regular termite inspection. If you live in an area where there are termites, you need to have a periodic inspection.
Typically, a home owner will inspect the property for signs of termites or other wood-destroying organisms (WDO) twice a year and after any major event that might disturb the soil around the house. Major events that can disturb soil include construction, renovation projects, installing aeration systems and landscaping work.
You should also inspect your home if you are buying or selling a house. This prevents you from buying a house with termite damage or unknowingly selling one to someone else.
We all have nightmares of one kind or another. One of my recurring nightmares is finding termites in my home. I have never actually had termites, but the fear is real. Why? Well, imagine you are in your kitchen and notice something crawling on the wall behind your fridge. A closer look reveals hundreds of teeny tiny insects. You scream and run outside, and as you are catching your breath and composing yourself, a neighbor walks by and asks what is wrong. When you tell him, he says βDonβt worry, they wonβt hurt you. Theyβre just termites!β
No matter how many times I have this dream, I wake up feeling terrified and the feeling does not go away for days after waking up. Termite infestations are no joke! The good news is that periodic inspections can prevent termite infestations from ever starting in the first place. If you live in a state where termite infestations are prevalent, then you should schedule a periodic inspection at least once per year to ensure that your home does not become a breeding ground for these pesky little insects.
Good luck!

If you’re a homeowner, chances are you’ve heard the term “termite inspection” before. Many homeowners get regular inspections to ensure their home is not at risk of infestation. But what many people don’t realize is that even if your home has never had termites before, it is still possible for them to develop without warning. Termite colonies can spread rapidly and cause significant damage in as little as a year.
Termite inspections help identify and prevent termite activity around your home. By checking for any signs of current or past activity, inspectors will be able to tell if there are enough termites present to warrant treatment options such as baiting or spraying with insecticide.
If you think your home might have termites, but aren’t sure how much treatment would cost, contact us today for an estimate! We’ll come out to your property and take samples from areas where there could potentially be active nests or burrows so we can determine whether or not there are any viable options available for removal.”
If you are a homeowner, you know that home ownership comes with a great deal of responsibility. One of the things that you may not think about right away is termite damage. If you live in an area that has termites, it is very important to do everything possible to prevent them from getting into your home.
You need to make sure you hire the right company to inspect your home for termites. You want someone who will come out on a regular basis and check your home thoroughly. You want to know if there are any places where they can enter your home, and then seal those areas up so they cannot enter.
Is your house built on a slab or a basement? Any kind of dirt or vegetation touching the foundation of your home is an open door for termites to enter. If there are any cracks, vents, or joints in the foundation, these are open doors as well. The crawl space is also a big problem area for termites because it is usually made of wood and easy to access.
If you have a deck, fence, or gazebo attached to your home and it has a direct link to your home’s foundation, this may be another way that termites get into your home. Watch out for any dirt, mulch, plants, firewood piles and any other wood products that are near the house.
Termites are mostly active in spring and summer months when temperatures rise above 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
