Turner made her professional acting debut as Sansa Stark on the HBO fantasy television series Game of Thrones (2011-2019), which brought her international recognition and critical praise. For her performance, she has received four nominations for Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, as well as a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Supporting Young Actress in a TV Series. She has also starred in the television film The Thirteenth Tale (2013) and she made her feature film debut in Another Me (2013).

Turner appeared in the mystery film Untitled Laughter in the Dark Project, though the film remains unreleased. She was cast as Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), and will reprise the role in Dark Phoenix (2019). Turner has also starred in the action comedy Barely Lethal (2015) and played a leading role in the drama film Alone, both released direct-to-video. In 2017, Turner portrayed Betsy the Cow in the animated musical comedy The Emoji Movie.
