For decades, Hollywood has been dominated by some of the biggest names in the business. These actors have been making movies since they were kids and will continue to do so until the day they die.
But as time goes by, more and more of these actors are retiring from acting. Some are even looking for other careers. Which top actors will be the last to retire?
The list below shows all of the past and present top actors who have retired or are looking for other careers. It’s ordered by age, with older actors first, then younger ones.
Actors are like athletes in many ways. They have a prime where they are at the top of their game and then they start to decline. That decline can be quick or slow but it always happens. The question is who will be the last to retire?
An actor’s retirement age is just like an athlete’s. Some are willing to hang on too long while others call it a career to early due to injuries or other reasons. With the rise of superhero movies and sequels actors can hang on longer than ever. So now there are older actors that are still popular and some that should have retired years ago.
Some of the most famous actors in the world continue to work despite being in their 70s, 80s and even 90s, with notable names such as Clint Eastwood, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and many more still going strong into their later years and perhaps never wanting to stop acting completely.
The last two actors to retire from the Top Actor list were Leonardo DiCaprio and Dustin Hoffman. While they have not been retired as long as other actors on this list, they have started to make their way into the list of most influential actors in history.
Last year, Tom Hanks was the last actor to retire from the Top Actor list. After a few years of hard work, he has earned his spot at number two on the list. The only person ahead of him is Stewart Copeland, who is retiring this month.

Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood. He has won three Oscars, two BAFTAs and two Golden Globes. But the 62-year-old actor has announced that he plans to retire from acting.
Day-Lewis’ retirement announcement was made public by his spokesperson on June 20 via Variety. “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor,” read a statement from Leslee Dart, his spokeswoman. “He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years.”
Days before the announcement was released, it was reported that Day-Lewis had wrapped production on his latest film, Phantom Thread, which he stars in alongside Lesley Manville and Vicky Krieps. The film is set to hit theaters in December 2017.
Day-Lewis’ retirement will mean that Hollywood will lose one of its most respected actors. However, the actor is not the first person to announce his retirement this year. Some of today’s biggest stars have also announced their retirements in 2017 so far.
Here are some of the celebrities who have announced their retirements this year:
