If you’re interested in a career in acting, but aren’t sure which of the many acting schools is best for you, this blog is for you. My name is Steve and I am the founder of ActingSchoolsNearMe.com.
I began this website to help future actors learn about acting schools in their area, to find out which of these acting schools are right for them and how to get started on their way to a career in acting. You will find tips on how to approach acting school auditions and reviews of several acting colleges at our website.
It’s important that you choose the right school as an actor just as it would be if you were planning on becoming a dentist or any other profession that requires training at “school”. This is because not all schools are created equal, and some schools are better than others, depending on what your goals are as an actor.
When you are looking at acting schools, it can be hard to know which one is right for you. There are so many choices and each program has a different philosophy and focus. Some programs are very intense, while others are more casual. Some provide a broad education in the arts, while others specialize in acting technique or other skill sets.
So how do you choose? The most important advice I can give you is this: Do your research! Read blogs (like this one!) and ask people who are in the programs what they think of them. Talk to people who know about acting schools and see what they think about the schools you’re interested in. If possible, shadow someone in a program you’re interested in so you can see what an average day is like.
After doing all that, you should have a pretty good idea about which school is right for you–but there’s still one more step that many people don’t take: see if there’s anyone from those schools who will meet with you (or anyone from any other school that interests you) for a free consultation. This is often overlooked, but it’s incredibly valuable! A good consultant will be able to give you advice about which school might be best for your unique situation, even if it’s not

Choosing an Acting School
The first step for many actors is finding the right acting school. But there are so many to choose from, and most have websites that make them look spectacular. So how do you know which one is right for you? We’ve put together a list of questions to ask when choosing an acting school:
Do I have to audition to get in?
Are classes offered at convenient times?
How many students are in each class?
What do your instructors do for a living? Are they active in the industry? If so, what recent projects have they done, or are they currently working on?
How often is the curriculum updated?
Is there an opportunity to study with guest instructors who work in the business?
How long has the school been open? Is it accredited by any accrediting agencies?
Can I take classes even if I’m not enrolled in their certification program? What if I’m not interested in getting certified at all? Will I still be able to take classes or study privately with instructors? Is there a limit on how long I can study there before I decide if I want to enroll in their certification program or not (if an option)?
Do you offer any opportunities for networking with industry professionals, such as
The first step to finding the acting school that is right for you is to find out what acting schools are near you.
What are your goals?
Are you looking for an acting school to help you get started in the business or to hone your skills as an actor? If you have no training, you want a full-fledged acting school, whether itβs a conservatory or university.
How much money do you want to spend?
Most training programs cost from $500-$10,000 and up; some offer scholarships. A few offer payment plans. Some of the more expensive schools require a lengthy application process and may only accept around 10% of those who audition. Other schools work on a first come first serve basis with rolling admissions.
What is your schedule?
This is critical because you need to take classes that fit into your schedule and donβt conflict with other parts of your life. Check on their website to see when they have auditions if required, or when they offer classes if auditions are not required. Some actors have taken classes at multiple schools in order to get the training they wanted at times that were convenient for them. The benefit of this approach is that you can sample different
If you are considering acting school, you need to first consider what type of training you are looking for. Then look at a few schools to find the right one that fits your needs and goals as an actor.
You will notice that there are many different types of acting schools out there; some focus on theatre, others on film and television, and some do both. Some are very broad in their training, teaching all aspects of acting including stage combat, singing, dancing, and character development; others focus more directly on delivering a specific skill such as auditioning or scene study. It may surprise you to learn that not all acting schools offer the same curriculum or provide the same level of training. Because of this, it is important to make sure you do your research first so that you can be sure that the school you attend will provide you with what you need to succeed in your career.
To help with this process, I have created this blog to inform actors about some great acting schools around the country and also help them find out which one is right for them. I believe that choosing an acting school is as important as choosing a college or university because it is ultimately an investment in yourself that can affect your entire life. I hope this blog provides helpful information for actors looking to
