There are times when you can’t seem to fix your computer, or it breaks in a way that defies repair. Even if you understand the problem, sometimes there just aren’t any solutions. That’s when you have to face the reality of technology burnout. It happens to the best of us.
You can’t simply give up on technology. But you need time away from the issue at hand to clear your head and avoid getting frustrated. So what do you do? Here are some tips for dealing with tech burnout and recovering from it so you can get back on track with your work and life!
1) Take a Break
If you’re feeling burned out, take a break from your device for a while. Step away from your computer and stop using it for at least an hour, if not more. Use this time to do something else that isn’t technology related β read a book, go for a walk, or even just stare out the window.
2) Talk About the Problem
Sometimes talking about your tech troubles can help ease your mind and make them seem less overwhelming. Grab a friend or family member and discuss what’s bothering you so they can offer their advice on how to deal with it or fix it if they know how. You’ll
Weβve all been there. Youβre going about your day, and then something goes wrong with your technology. It may be a small problem, like an application that keeps crashing, or large, like a device that refused to turn on. Either way, you get frustrated and tired of dealing with it.
Maybe the application has been crashing for weeks, but you just learned that there is a way to fix it. Or maybe youβre used to fixing the problem yourself but you finally admitted that you need help. You try to follow the instructions for fixing the problem but for whatever reason they donβt work for you β maybe because you have a different operating system or hardware than was described in the instructions. You end up spending hours trying to fix something that should only take a few minutes and getting nowhere in the process.
You start swearing at your computer screen and fantasizing about smashing your laptop with a baseball bat β while it is still on! How hard could it be? It would feel so good! At this point your tech-savvy friend calls you up and asks what you are doing on Saturday night. You tell them how frustrated you are with this silly problem and they sigh. They canβt believe how much time
It’s a modern day reality: technology has definitely made our lives easier, but it also comes with frustrations. Whether you’re having trouble syncing your phone to your computer, you’re sick of waiting on hold to talk to customer service, or you can’t figure out why that printer keeps jamming, technology issues tend to be more of a source of aggravation than anything else.
So what do you do when the problems that tech is supposed to solve only end up making your life more difficult?
The first thing to remember is that you aren’t alone. Plenty of people have been in this situation before and know exactly how frustrating it can be. You don’t have to keep fighting these issues on your own!
The next time you have a problem with your computer, TV, or phone, don’t call the manufacturer’s customer support service. Instead, try calling a smaller company that sells the same product.
I recently had to do this with my Xbox 360, which was suffering from the infamous “red ring of death.”
I called Microsoft and they were very unhelpful. They wanted to charge me $100 to fix it even though I was still under warranty.
The folks at Circuit City were much more helpful. They told me about a program where Microsoft would replace my old 360 for free with a new one if I paid $20 for shipping.
I did and now have a new 360.
Next time you run into technical problems, try calling a smaller company that sells the same product as the big guys and see what kind of help you get.
Customer service is a customer’s perception of a company’s treatment of them. The better the customer feels about their treatment, the more likely they are to be loyal customers.
Customer service has always been important, but it is even more so now that customers have access to blogs and review sites. Those who receive bad customer service can turn around and tell thousands of people about it.
Below are some tips for providing great customer service:
– Make it easy to do business with you.
– Provide great experiences for your customers.
– Be helpful and friendly, not just polite.
– Be willing to make sacrifices for your customers.
– Be transparent when things go wrong.
– Listen to what your customers want and need.
“We’re sorry, but we can’t help you.”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t help you.”
“I didn’t cause this problem, so I can’t fix it.”
No matter how you say it, customers hate to hear that their issue isn’t going to be resolved. They may even have a hard time understanding why their problem can’t be fixed. It’s up to you as the customer representative to explain to them the situation and what will happen next.
Explain the situation. If possible, provide specific details about the problem. If there are certain steps that should be taken, let customers know what they are, and advise them not to continue without first taking these steps.
Explain what will happen next. For example, if the product is under warranty and needs to be sent in for repairs, advise customers of this process and how long it will take. Or if there is nothing further that can be done at this time, let customers know that.
Be willing to follow up with customers. Provide them with an email address or phone number so they can contact you if they have any additional questions or need more information later on.
You’re a tech support team. Your help desk is staffed with qualified, talented people (the best!) who can solve problems and answer questions quickly.
And most importantly, you all have fun doing it!
You’re not just “the people who fix things.” You’re the people who help other people do their jobs. And that’s a role worth celebrating.
What percentage of your time is spent dealing with problem customers?
The best way to deal with these types of customers is to keep them from becoming your customers in the first place. But that’s not always possible.
So today, let’s talk about how you can make it easier for them to go away and leave you alone so you can get back to helping the customers who want your help.
If you’ve been around here for a while, you might be thinking, “But what about all those posts on how to turn angry customers into happy ones?”
Well, they’re still valid. Those techniques aren’t just useful for turning angry customers into happy ones. They’re also useful for turning problem customers into regular ones!
