Bekir Ersönmez was born in 1939 in Istanbul. He started his career as a stage actor in 1960 at Istanbul City Theater. He had various roles at Istanbul City Theater until 1986. In 1986, he began to work for the State Theatre (Devlet Tiyatroları) and performed on stage until 1996. From 1996 to 2011 he worked for the Yeditepe Municipal Theatre.
Between his theater roles and performances, he also played movie roles, such as, “Kurtuluş Savaşı” (The War of Independence), “Merhaba Mecnun” (Hello Mecnun), “Deli Dumrul” (Crazy Dumrul), “Bir Demet Menekşe” (A Cluster of Violets), “Süper Baba” (Super Dad), etc… He also appeared on TV series such as “Fetih 1453” (1453 Conquest), “İkinci Bahar

Bekir Ersönmez, a Turkish actor who is seriously ill, is medically treated in Turkey after his health condition worsened and he was discharged from a hospital in Saudi Arabia.
Ersönmez and his wife were on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia when his health condition deteriorated. He was hospitalized for two months in the Saudi Arabian city of Medina, where he underwent surgery.
During his treatment at the hospital, Ersönmez suffered from side-effects of anesthetics such as loss of voice and memory loss.
The Turkish Actors Foundation has been supporting him in terms of medical treatment, food and accommodation ever since he was hospitalized. Ersönmez is currently being treated at Recep Tayyip Erdogan University Training and Research Hospital in Rize province.
Turkish Actors Foundation made an announcement regarding Ersönmez’s discharge from the Saudi Arabian hospital on July 29, noting that the foundation will continue to provide assistance to the actor for his further treatment and recovery.

Ersönmez has been struggling with several health problems and was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia on Sunday morning. He told reporters that he has received many offers to work with him but that he couldn’t do anything at the moment due to his health situation.
