Norse mythology is probably something you’re familiar with, even if you’re not aware of it. The Norse gods are probably the most famous pantheon of deities in the world today. From Thor to Loki to Odin and beyond, their stories have been told for thousands of years and have influenced cultures all over the world.

With all of the great shows out there involving Norse mythology and Vikings, it’s easy to get lost in the details and miss some of them. That’s why we’ve put together this list of TV shows based on Norse mythology or coming out of Nordic countries.

One of the more interesting phenomena in pop culture over the past few years has been a resurgence in interest of Norse Mythology. Following the success of Thor in 2011, which was followed by Thor: The Dark World, and later Avengers; Age of Ultron, which featured the Norse God of Thunder himself, Marvel seems to have struck gold (or perhaps Asgard).

Like most other superheroes (with the notable exception of Superman), Thor is a creation that was uniquely suited to compete at the box office with other big budget action movies.
Despite this difference between Thor and his fellow Avengers however (Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Black Widow), audiences still flocked to see him on screen in droves. And since then we’ve seen more and more TV shows and movies that feature Norse
