It’s a question that has plagued mankind since The Office made its debut on NBC in 2005. And one that has affected your daily life every single day since. Because the Jim Halpert look is a look you’ve seen everywhere. It’s the look of every guy you see at your local coffee shop, it’s the look of every guy you see walking down the street, and it’s even the look of the guy you see in your mirror each morning.

These are an essential piece of attire that needs to be in your closet. You also want a button up shirt or two for those business casual days at work. Finally you want a nice pair of sneakers from Nike or even some Sperry’s which go great with khaki’s and chinos.

The Jim Halpert Look consists of a casual style that is neat and clean. He wears a lot of sweaters, dress shirts, jackets, ties and jeans. There is definitely a sort of preppy feel to his clothes with the need to wear more than one layer at all times. I would say he likes to wear classic menswear pieces with a few prep accent items thrown in.

A good rule of thumb for dressing like Jim is that if you are wearing jeans you should match them with a button-down shirt and maybe even a sweater on top for good measure. The jeans can be any color as long as they are not faded or distressed. Dress shirts can range from plaid or stripes to solid colors like white or blue. Ties are always welcome but remember they need to be solid too no patterned ties here. When picking out a sweater make sure you steer clear of anything too thick unless you plan on wearing it with a jacket over it or vice versa because Jim never wears anything too heavy and most of his sweaters are thin enough to layer over a dress shirt easily.

I’ve been watching The Office for a solid five years now and I have to say, Jim Halpert has always been my favorite character on the show. He’s just one of those characters that you never want to leave the screen.

I’ve always wondered what it would take to emulate his style and how I could transition into something like that.

I am going to break down what it takes to look like Jim and how I would go about doing it.

Jim’s style is effortless and simple. No matter where the guy is, he’s always dressed in the same way. You see him in the office, at a bar, at a casino and always in his trademark look. The attempt for this blog is to decipher what it takes to achieve this look and more importantly why you should care.

Jim Halpert is known for his quirky, yet cool style. He’s comfortable in jeans, a crewneck sweater, and a pair of sneakers. He also isn’t afraid to wear a button down shirt or a blazer. While Jim is always dressed appropriately for the situation, he brings in his own personal touch as well.

The first step to copying Jim Halpert’s style is to start with good basics. A well-fitting jean and solid t-shirts are essential in any wardrobe. After you have the basics down, start building on them with accessories, like a scarf and hat.
