The Van dessel Actor is a blog about the acting profession, how to succeed as an actor, and how to make your own luck. It is written by Pete van de Voort, an actor who has worked both in the UK and in The Netherlands.
My name is Pete van de Voort, I am an actor living in The Hague, The Netherlands. I have been working professionally as an actor since 2004. Before becoming an actor I worked as a director and writer for theatre.
I have worked extensively in the UK and internationally. My professional highlights include working with Tom Hiddleston (“Thor”, “War Horse”), Mark Gatiss (“Sherlock”, “Doctor Who”) and Patrick Stuart (BBC’s “Merlin”).
I have also had the pleasure of working with some of the best young actors currently working in the UK including: Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”), Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”) and Andrew Garfield (“Spiderman”).
Van Dessel Actor is my name and acting is my game. I am a young actor living in New York City and I have been at it for as long as I can remember.
I have studied at the top acting schools and with the best teachers in the city, and now I’m here to share what I’ve learned with others who are also looking for success in this crazy business we call show.
If you stick with me long enough, you’ll realize that I have a few philosophies about this business that run counter to those of many other teachers out there. That’s because I firmly believe that there are far too many people teaching you how to be like everyone else, especially when it comes to auditioning.
That’s why I’m here to help you stand out from the crowd by using your own unique qualities as an actor and human being. My mission is to share tips, tricks and advice on everything from auditioning to marketing yourself to finding your own unique voice as an artist.
I am an actor based in New York City, originally from the Netherlands. I have recently been accepted into the acting school at The Lee Strasburg Theatre and Film Institute. I am starting a blog to write about my experiences in the acting world, as well as tips and tricks that might help other actors succeed. I would like to set my blog apart from others by having it focus on mainly the business side of acting, and how to be successful in this industry. I want to make sure that my blog has a welcoming tone, so that any new actors can feel welcome and comfortable reading it. My audience is going to be mostly acting students, but I would also like to invite people who are interested in becoming an actor or learning more about the profession.
This blog is about my experiences in the acting profession, and hopefully can help those who want to become an actor. My name is Van Dessel and I am a 24 year old actor from Flanders, Belgium. I have always been interested in theatre. At 13 years old I started taking voice lessons at the local community center, and at 16 years old I started taking acting lessons at a local theater school in Sint-Truiden (Belgium). In 2011, I graduated from this school with a high school diploma as well as a certificate in acting.
After finishing high school, I decided to take a gap year. A gap year is something very common in Belgium. It means that you take one whole year after high school to do something that’s not related to studying or starting your career. During that year, besides working part time at a supermarket, I took singing lessons three times a week and attended two different theater groups.
In September 2012, I started my Bachelor’s Degree in Acting at LUCA School of Arts in Brussels (Belgium). Three years later I graduated with great success. The last two years of the Bachelor were spent attending the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (Belgium), where we studied our main subjects: Voice
Acting is a profession. A craft to be learned and practiced. And, like any other profession, it takes time and effort to become an expert. As a result, many people fall in love with the idea of acting but never master the craft.
I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, but if you are not willing to put in a lot of hard work then please stop reading this blog right now because I’m not here to pump your ego or tell you what you want to hear!
If you are ready for some honest and realistic insight on the career of an actor then read on!
Acting is not about looking pretty or having a famous last name. It’s about skill and talent. So lets get straight to the point: Being an actor means being an artist. Your instrument is your body and voice. The canvas is the stage or screen. And you will paint pictures with your words and emotions.
You need technique, confidence, and commitment. You must be willing to make mistakes and learn from them! You must be dedicated and disciplined. If you can commit yourself to doing whatever it takes then there is no limit to what you can achieve!
One of the most important steps in becoming an actor is getting headshots. They’re your calling card, your resume all rolled into one. With that in mind, choosing a photographer is a crucial decision. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice.
1. Ask around.
2. Look at samples of their work.
3. Know what you want and don’t forget to ask!
4. Make sure they know how to use Photoshop.
