For those who have been to Seattle, you may be aware of a section in the city that is surrounded by mountains and water. Referred to as “the peninsula,” it has been the home of many great attractions and events throughout the years. One of the most notable parts of this area is Section 117.

Originally used for logging purposes, Section 117 soon became the premiere spot for entertainment in the northwest. After being included as part of Seattle’s waterfront redevelopment plan in the early 90’s, its use expanded to include sports and concert venues. By the early 2000’s Section 117 was flourishing as an entertainment destination and was recognized as such by both local and national publications.

As part of a larger plan to bring further development to the area, Section 117 will begin construction on a new park which will house many new amenities including a bike path and kayak launch. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2018 with completion date TBD.

The new entertainment district is being developed by Anchor QEA and New York-based architect Stephen B. Jacobs Group, with interior design by Seattle’s award winning firm, Graham Baba Architects. The first phase of development will include the renovation and re-opening of the historic Showbox Theater (Showbox at the Market) and a new multi-purpose, 1,500 seat theater (Showbox SoDo). Additionally, Phase I will include a 200 room boutique hotel with rooftop deck and restaurant, two restaurants and retail shops.

The project is led by Anchor QEA Principal Jeff Blosser who noted that “Section 117 is not just another live music venue; it will be a vibrant urban destination for people to enjoy food, drinks, shopping and events. It’s Seattle’s best kept secret that has been hiding in plain sight for decades.” Section 117 is strategically located between Safeco Field and CenturyLink Stadium in one of the most active sections of downtown Seattle – just south of Pioneer Square and within walking distance to many popular neighborhoods including Belltown, SODO, Chinatown/International District and the stadiums.

Although known only to local residents as the home to many cultural events over the years – including concerts featuring Guns N
