Some actors are happy playing characters that are similar to their own personality. They don’t want to delve too deep into the psyche of their character and they don’t want to become that person. They want to perform the character and then go home at the end of the day and leave the performance behind them.
Other actors are very comfortable taking on a completely different persona for weeks or months at a time. It becomes second nature for them and they enjoy getting into the mind set of their character. It is their job after all and part of their job is to take on a new identity while they are performing on stage or in front of the camera. I have been playing Trevor Philips in Grand Theft Auto V for three years now. I am a method actor, which means that I actually become the character I play. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it. I live in a trailer in the middle of the desert and spend most of my time alone. Sometimes I get lonely, but mostly I like it that way. It’s better to be alone then to have bad company.
When I am not working on GTA V, I spend time with my dog Chop and do some hunting or fishing. It helps me to keep grounded so that when it is time for me to be Trevor Philips again, that I can slip back into his skin easily. Trevor is an interesting character because he leads such a different life than mine. He lives in Los Santos and is always taking on new jobs or planning something illegal with his friends Michael Townley and Lamar Davis.
I love playing Trevor Philips because he is so different from who I am as an actor. My favorite thing about him is how unpredictable he is and how much fun it is to play him because you never know what will happen next! That’s what makes him such a great character: he always keeps you guessing!
