James Franco: Thank you for interviewing me. I am so happy to be nominated for an Oscar. I think Spring Breakers can change people’s lives.

Interviewer: What is it about Spring Breakers that you think is so special?

Franco: It’s a very real movie. It’s about real things that happen to kids all over the world, and it shows a reality that we have never seen before.

Interviewer: What do you hope people will take away from this film?

Franco: I want people to see the human side of it. This could happen to anyone. No one is exempt from this kind of life and no one should be labeled because of it.

Interviewer: In other interviews, you have said that you did this film to show that actors are not just actors, they are artists and they are here to make a difference in this world. Would you say that your role as Alien has made a difference in your life?

Franco: Of course! I learned so much about myself by doing this movie and I hope that kids all

“My agent called me and said I think this will work for you, I’m sending it over.” He takes a breath. “I read the script, and I thought it was a really strong character. Then I met with [director] Danny Boyle, and he was very clear about what he wanted to do with the movie and what his vision was. And then I met with Fox Searchlight, and they were very clear about their desire to make an independent film that had a big-movie feel to it. “I liked Danny’s movies; I’ve seen them all,” Franco continues. “He would talk about how he shot other movies, and how he approached his material. He said that in this case, we’re going to use all these tools–cameras here, cameras there–to give you as much freedom as possible. He said we’re going to rehearse for two weeks so you get used to the space where you’ll be filming–you’ll know every inch of it.”
