In the upcoming movie “The Dark Knight Rises,” Heath Ledger plays Batman’s arch-nemesis, the Joker. This is not the first time Ledger has played a villainous character. Some might say that he already played a similar role in the movie “A Knight’s Tale,” which was directed by Brian Helgeland in 2001.
In “A Knight’s Tale,” Ledger plays the role of William Thatcher. Thatcher is a squire who pretends to be a knight and enters tournaments for money. He becomes famous for winning jousting competitions, with his squire friend, Roland (Mark Addy), as his sidekick. Thatcher meets Lady Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon), and they fall in love with each other. But Thatcher’s lie becomes a problem when he loses his beloved father (Alan Tudyk) and continues to pose as Sir Ulrich von Lichtenstein of Gelderland.
In “The Dark Knight Rises,” Ledger plays Bruce Wayne/Batman’s arch-nemesis, the Joker. In this film, Batman is captured by Bane (Tom Hardy), a masked terrorist leader
The actor Heath Ledger is best known for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight (2008). His portrayal of Batman’s arch-nemesis was so impressive that he received a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. But what many people do not know is that Ledger also took on another role in 2005: the role of Ennis Del Mar, a gay rancher in Brokeback Mountain.
The two roles were very different. The Joker is a mass-murdering psychopath who terrorizes Gotham City. Ennis Del Mar is a quiet, taciturn man who finds love with another man. Both roles are equally challenging because they require an actor to fully understand the ins and outs of their characters to bring them to life on screen. Heath Ledger was praised by critics for his performances as both characters; he became an even more well-known and respected actor after playing these two roles.
Ledger’s performance as the Joker was particularly impressive because he had to work hard to master the character’s mannerisms and speech patterns. For example, he created his own rendition of the character’s laugh by practicing it in front of a mirror until it became second nature to him. Additionally, he made sure
In the movie, Batman Forever, Two-Face was played by Tommy Lee Jones. In The Dark Knight, Two-Face was played by Aaron Eckhart. These two actors have totally different styles of acting and they created their own version of what Two-Face should be like in the movie. This blog post will compare and contrast the performances of these two actors and the differences between their portrayals of this character.
Tommy Lee Jones is a talented actor who has been in many movies such as Men In Black, No Country for Old Men, and Captain America: The First Avenger. He is known for his gruff voice and his intense stare. In Batman Forever, he plays Harvey Dent, the future Two-Face who is a district attorney that is trying to stop crime in Gotham City. He has a girlfriend named Rachel Dawes who works in his office as a legal aid and they are going to get married at some point during the movie. His character arc starts off with him being an honorable man that wants to bring justice to Gotham City but then he gets hideously disfigured by The Riddler and becomes Two-Face who then tries to kill Batman because he blames him for what happened to him (Two-Face).
Aaron Eckhart is another talented actor who
Fans of DC Comics and Batman movies, of course, know about Batman’s arch-enemy, the Joker. He is a ruthless criminal who is insane and wants to take over Gotham City. In Batman: The Dark Knight, the Joker is portrayed by Heath Ledger. He was nominated for an Oscar but did not win.
In Suicide Squad, the Joker is back—played by Jared Leto who also won an Oscar. The two movies are very different in many ways.
The Joker in Suicide Squad is more psychotic and sadistic than Ledger’s interpretation of him. Ledger’s Joker has a sense of humor while Leto’s Joker seems to be more dangerous as he kills people without hesitation.
In Suicide Squad, the Joker has a lot more tattoos on his body than in Batman: The Dark Knight. The tattoos are symbols that represent his desire to take over Gotham City and destroy anything that stands in his way including the police force and Batman.
In Suicide Squad, the Joker has a lady love named Dr. Harleen Quinzel played by Margot Robbie who becomes known as Harley Quinn. Dr. Quinzel works for Arkham Asylum where she treats inmates with mental illness especially the Joker who later falls in love with her
“I’m not gonna kill you,” Jared Leto’s Joker purrs to Ben Affleck’s Batman. “I’m just gonna hurt you… really, really bad.”
If the latest trailer for Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad is any indication, this Joker is going to be nothing like the one who terrorized Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy — and that’s a good thing.
The director of The Dark Knight trilogy had made it very clear he wanted no part of either a Joker or Batman story after The Dark Knight Rises, so DC and Warner Bros. needed to find someone who could take on the challenge without creating a film that felt like a cheap knockoff — especially after Nolan cast such a long shadow with his casting choices.
Enter David Ayer, the writer and director behind Fury and End of Watch, who was tapped to write and direct Suicide Squad — and who knew exactly what he wanted to do with the Joker: He would make him unlike anything we had ever seen before.
When Ayer cast Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad, he knew he was taking on a very strong legacy set by Ledger. But Ayer
I never thought I would watch a Joker movie. Born in the 90s and being raised by parents who were strict on what movies I watched, I never saw the previous versions of the Joker or Batman. So naturally, when seeing how much love people were giving this movie, I was excited to see what all the hype was around it.
Joaquin Phoenix’s performance as Arthur Fleck is nothing short of amazing. This movie is such a different take on the Joker that it keeps you guessing all throughout. The first half of the film builds up to his transformation into his villainous persona and then from there, it becomes a new kind of dark movie altogether.
This is not your typical superhero movie, in fact I don’t know if you could even call this one a superhero movie at all. It’s more like a character study about someone who has gone through so much trauma in life and feels so alone that he turns to violence and chaos as an outlet for his anger and sadness.
The acting in this film is phenomenal; everyone from Robert De Niro to Frances Conroy put on incredible performances but Joaquin Phoenix steals the show with his transformation into a deranged psychopath who just wants to be recognized for who he really is.
