It is clear that Nick Cannon is not a professional actor or producer. His posts are simply his personal opinions and experiences with making it in Hollywood. He is clearly an amateur.
Nick Cannon started out as a stand up comic in San Diego, where he performed at the La Jolla Comedy Store. Later, he auditioned for an NBC comedy variety show called “In Living Color”. He was selected to be on the show and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17. Nick Cannon attended Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, California where he was student body president. He graduated from California State University, San Diego and was then signed by Nickelodeon’s All That. He wrote, starred in, produced, and hosted his own television show “The Nick Cannon Show” for two seasons.
Nick Cannon’s posts are very informal and chatty because he does not feel like he has to sound professional or knowledgeable about acting or producing. In fact he admits that he does not consider himself a professional actor or producer. The casual tone makes it easy for readers to relate to him because they do not feel like they need to be an expert on the topic in order to understand what Nick Cannon is trying to say.
Hello My Dear Readers,
I know it has been quite a while since I have written anything on this blog. So much has happened in the past year and a half. I have been busy in LA meeting, greeting and working with some of the biggest names in Hollywood as well as working on my own projects. I have also been keeping a journal of all my experiences which I am going to post here on my blog. For those of you who are new to my blog, let me tell you a little bit more about myself.
My name is Nick Cannon and I’m an actor, writer and director who got his start in Hollywood at the age of 8 years old when I appeared as “Marcus” in Nickelodeon’s “All That.” Since then I have gone on to star in several films including “Drumline,” “Love Don’t Cost A Thing,” “Bobby,” “Underclassman” and many more. In 2004, I co-wrote and starred in a movie called “Roll Bounce” with Bow Wow and Chi McBride, which was based on my childhood growing up in Chicago. In 2008, I starred alongside Adam Sandler in the comedy film “Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist.” That same year I created and
Nick Cannon was born on October 8, 1980 in San Diego, California, USA as Nicholas Scott Cannon. He is a producer and writer, known for Wild ‘n Out (2005), America’s Got Talent (2006) and Drumline (2002). He has been married to Mariah Carey since April 30, 2008. They have two children.
Nick Cannon: I think the best thing about being an actor is the creative process. It’s not just acting; it’s writing, directing, producing. It’s a lot of different things that come together to make a great movie or show or whatever it may be. A lot of people don’t realize that there are so many elements — lighting and sound — that go into making something great. I love being able to direct my movies and TV shows because I get to be involved in every aspect of production — from the scripting process all the way through post-production
I’ve been told I have a face for radio, so it’s no surprise that I’ve been able to find work in the entertainment industry. But do you want to know how to make it in Hollywood? My advice is to start with your parents.
You may think that what separates us actors from the rest of humanity is our superior talent and good looks, but the real difference is in our parents. The big-name stars whose faces you see on magazine covers didn’t get there by themselves. They had loving moms and dads who guided them every step of the way.
Case in point: My father was my first manager. He saw my sheer star power when I was just a baby and knew he would be remiss if he didn’t nurture and protect it from the harsh world. So he looked after me as carefully as if I were carrying his genetic material, which for all I know I was.
He did everything for me: set up auditions, rehearsed with me, answered my fan mail, drove me to set, even read my lines off camera when I couldn’t remember them. He never treated me like a child. He never said things like “I’m not your chauffeur,” or “I’m not your secretary,” or ”
The Industry is a business, it’s not personal. What makes you great or special is what will help you succeed. You have to find your own lane and lane switch when necessary.
The Industry wants fresh faces and new talent . . . so be that!!!
If you are an actor or actress, know your type and get headshots that reflect it. Don’t try to be something you are not because no one else can play your role better than YOU!
If you are a singer, make sure you have the best voice possible and always sing live when auditioning for music projects.
If you are a dancer, make sure your choreography is current and up-to-date. Keep up with the trends because most directors want their dancers to be able to freestyle as well.
Talent will never go out of style so know yours, polish it and make sure you are ready when opportunity comes knocking on your door!!!
The first thing you have to understand about Hollywood is that it’s a business based on rejection. That’s just the way it is. If you’re not strong enough to deal with rejection, you will never make it. Most people don’t realize this, but I’ve been rejected thousands of times in my career. Well, okay, maybe a few hundred. But you know what I mean.
Let’s say you submit your headshot and resume to an agent or casting director and they call you in for an interview. You go in there and they listen to your monologue, or have you read a few pages from the script, and they’ll tell you they’ll call if something comes up. And you think to yourself: “That was great! I nailed it!” But then they never call. So what went wrong? The only possible explanation is that someone else was better than you.
In fact, it happens so often that after a while, you start to assume you’re going to get rejected before you even go in for an interview! That’s why when I got the lead role on All That, it was such an amazing feeling! Not only did I beat out all the other kids who auditioned for the part, but I also beat out my own
