Instagram’s Best Instagram Tips: A set of tips by a social media expert.

A year ago, my New Year’s resolution was to start an Instagram account and make it big. I was inspired by a few accounts I had seen, including one that got over 100k followers from posting nothing but photos of a kitten. (The owner later sold the account for $15k.)

Over the course of 2013, I worked my way up from 0 to 45k followers. This got me attention from several large companies, and I even made a living off it for a few months, getting free products in exchange for posts about them.

And then after six months of doing this professionally, I shut down my account. I learned a lot about social media along the way, so here are some tips:

We asked Kristina Kazanjian, social media expert and the Director of PR at GoFundMe.com, for her best Instagram tips. Here’s what she had to say:

Use apps to create more engaging content. There are tons of editing tools out there for making your photos more creative and unique. I like VSCO Cam for simple edits and filters.

Play with light. We all have our iPhones with us at all times, so use it! If you see something cool or interesting, snap a pic of it! Recently I was on a plane and snapped this pic from my window seat.

Write captions that tell a story. The caption is a great place to give some context or background into the photo you’re posting. You can include thoughts or emotions to make it more relatable to your audience. This is one of my favorite ways to engage followers, because they get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in my life!

Ask questions! If you’re looking to get more likes and comments on your posts, ask an open-ended question in the caption that pertains to your photo. People love sharing their opinions, so encourage them to do so!

The following tips are an edited version of a set of tips originally posted by social media expert Taylor Loren on the Later blog:

1. Post photos that are high-quality and relatively large in size (that means not blurry or pixelated).

2. Post photos with bright colors, especially blues, oranges and pinks.

3. Post photos with faces in them.

4. Post photos with people doing activities, like playing sports or attending events.

5. Post photos with animals in them.

6. Post photos that are as square as possible, not rectangular or very wide (though extremely rectangular images can work sometimes).

7. Tag your photo location if you’re at a certain place (e.g., your city), but not if you’re just walking down the street or in your house (your home’s location isn’t relevant to your photo).

8. Write clear and concise captions that describe what’s happening in the photo and have at least one relevant hashtag (see tip 10).

9. Use hashtags to make your posts discoverable to people who might be interested in them (find out how to do this below).

10. Only use popular hashtags that are relevant to your post; don’t use too many hasht

Instagram is quickly becoming the most popular social media platform, and yet many entrepreneurs don’t know how to use it.

In this article, I’ll give you my best tips on how to get more followers and engagement on Instagram.

1. Post consistently

On Instagram, if you aren’t posting consistently, you are losing followers. It’s as simple as that. People follow you because they like what you post, but they will unfollow if they stop seeing new content from you.

2. Use hashtags

You should use at least 5-10 hashtags in your photo captions. When you use a hashtag, it helps people find your photos more easily on Instagram. If someone tags their photo with

Instagram isn’t a simple photo-sharing app, it’s a full-blown social network.

To help you get the most out of Instagram, we’ve compiled a list of tips and tricks, from using custom emoji in your captions to changing your username without losing your existing followers.

I was up late one night last week, scrolling through Instagram and feeling a little anxious. But as I scrolled, I couldn’t tell if that anxiety came from my own insecurities or from seeing how many followers other people had.

It’s hard to tell what’s real on social media. Even celebrities and models post photos that have been retouched and filtered. And it’s easy to feel like you don’t measure up when everyone seems to be posting their best life.

I wanted to see if there was a way to use social media to improve your own well-being and happiness, so I reached out to a few experts for tips. Here are five simple things you can do today that will make your social media experience better — no matter what kind of day you’re having.

1. Appreciate yourself more

The first thing we can do is look at ourselves more kindly, said Dr. Linda Papadopoulos, a psychologist who specializes in the impact of social media on mental health. She told me she often sees people struggling with the way they look when they compare themselves with others on social media. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

2. Mute
