We talked about it on our last podcast, but men have a lot more testosterone than women. In fact, men have 20x more testosterone than women.
One of the reasons we love to talk about testosterone is because of the power that it has to change your physique and health. Men with high levels of testosterone have more muscle mass, more bone density, and a lower risk factor of heart disease.
But if you don’t have enough testosterone, you can end up with decreased sex drive, low energy levels, and a higher risk for heart disease.
Too much testosterone can be just as bad as not having enough. Testosterone supplements can cause acne, increased body hair, increased sex drive and aggressive behavior to name a few negative side effects.
So how do you know if you have too much or too little? You need to get your blood tested! You can do this by finding a doctor who specializes in hormones or take the test yourself using an at home kit like the ones from EverlyWell or Thorne Research.
The results will be clear and you’ll know exactly where you stand. If you don’t have enough testosterone then we recommend looking into some natural ways on how to increase your levels – things like dieting and exercise are great places to start
In my experience, most men tend to have too much testosterone. But since our society is testosterone dependent, some men have too little.
When testosterone levels are too high you’ll see:
* Aggression
* Fat storage
* Poor focus (ADHD symptoms)
* Shrinking of the testicles
* Sleepiness in the afternoon
* Weight gain
* An increasing waistline.
When testosterone levels are too low you’ll see:
* Easy weight loss (losing fat and muscle)
* Erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence.
* Incontinence, especially when laughing or sneezing.
* Infertility. A lack of testosterone can affect sperm production and reduce fertility. This usually coincides with ED and incontinence symptoms as well.
The problem with having too much or too little testosterone is that your body will make less of it on its own because it thinks you don’t need it anymore. If you have too much or too little, this is a sign that your endocrine system has been thrown out of balance and your body no longer produces the right amount of hormones on its own. Men who aren’t able to produce adequate amounts of hormones without supplements may be at a higher risk for
The endocrine system (including the gonads) is a major regulator of the human body. A well-functioning endocrine system is necessary for normal human health and well-being. The most important glands of the endocrine system are:
Thyroid gland
Parathyroid gland
Pancreas
Adrenal glands
Kidneys
Pineal gland
Hypothalamus
Ovaries or testicles (gonads). All other tissues of the body also produce hormones, but in much smaller quantities.
The main purpose of hormones is to help regulate important physiological functions such as growth and development, metabolism, reproduction, sexual function and mood. Hormones act on specific target tissues in order to maintain homeostasis throughout the body. Testosterone is the male sex hormone that is mainly produced in the testes. Testosterone is responsible for the normal growth and development of male sex organs and characteristics.
