Clown auditions are a bit like going on an adventure. You never know what will happen but you can prepare and make sure you have packed everything you need.
You will be asked to do some activities, play games and show what you can do with your clown skills. The first part of the audition is usually in a group. Make sure that everyone is included and that they feel comfortable participating.
Auditioning for a clown role can be quite nerve-racking, especially if it’s a big production or it’s your first time in an audition. Take several slow deep breaths before the audition starts and try to relax. Most importantly enjoy the experience, it may be different to what you expected but it should still be fun!
In this blog post I will share with you what to expect at a clown audition, and how you can prepare. I will also tell you a little bit about the different kinds of clown auditions, because they are all a little bit different.
The first thing you need to know is that there is no one right way to be a clown. Clowning is very personal and subjective! There are many different ways to approach it, and the best way for you is the way that feels most authentic and true to who you are as a person.
What are auditions?
Auditions are opportunities for performers to show their skills and get hired by casting directors. Auditions give performers an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in front of casting directors and producers, who may hire them or make recommendations for future work.
In this blog post I will tell you what to expect at a clown audition, and how you can prepare.
I will also tell you a little bit about the different kinds of clown auditions, because they are all a little bit different.
Clown auditions are a very specific type of audition. You will be asked to demonstrate your skills in a variety of ways. Here’s what you need to know if you are taking part in a clown audition.
Clown auditions will either include a short interview, or the interview will take place at a later date. In the first instance, you may be asked general questions about your background and experience as an actor and performer. You may also be asked to explain why you wish to become a clown and/or what led you to it.
During the interview itself, you may also be asked questions about your ability to work with children, what hobbies and interests you have aside from acting and performing, whether or not costume is something that you enjoy wearing and whether or not there is an item in your wardrobe that could easily be adapted for use as a clown costume.
Following the interview, you will be asked to demonstrate your skills as an actor and performer by taking part in a series of activities, which may include:
The preparing of a short performance piece; this may include singing and dancing but should also include some comedy elements – this should last no longer than five minutes.
Being given an object (this will usually be something minor such as a pencil or
A clown audition is a big deal. It’s usually the only opportunity you’ll have to show off your skills and impress the director. It can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially if you’ve never tried out before. Don’t worry, though! We’re here to help you learn how to prepare for a clown audition.
First of all, let’s answer the question: what is a clown audition? A clown audition is an opportunity to show off your skills and talents to a director or producer in order to get cast in their show or film. It is not an interview; it’s more like an acting class with no feedback given during the process.
What do you need for a clown audition? You will need:
Good posture and strong presence onstage – this helps you stand out from other actors who are trying out for the same role(s) as well!
A sense of humor – this shows that even though you may not know everything about being funny yet, there’s still hope for you in this industry someday (and hopefully soon).
I have been asked to provide some advice for preparing for a clown audition.
Firstly, if you have been invited to audition for a particular show then this is good news. You have been recognised as a clown of the appropriate standard but it is important to remember that you are probably not the only clown being invited and there may be general auditions which are open to anyone.
The best way to prepare for any audition is to know what will happen during the audition and prepare yourself accordingly.
An audition is an opportunity for you to show off your skills and for the company/director/producer to see how you perform under pressure and how well you respond to other people. They will ask you questions so they can get an idea of how well you communicate with others and they will give you tasks which they want done in a certain way so they can see how well you listen, understand and perform.
A clown audition is a bit of an odd thing. It’s not your usual acting audition.
An actor might come in and act in a particular scene. Or they might be asked to perform a monologue. They might even have to dance or sing!
A clown audition is often pretty different. You are asked to make up some clown material on the spot. Sometimes you will be working with another person, sometimes alone but either way it’s important that you are able to create something quickly.
The following are a few tips and tricks I’ve learnt that may help you prepare for your next clown audition!
Clowning is a craft. It’s a craft that requires a lot of effort, training, and practice to master. The same way an actor gets ready for his/her roles with research, script analysis, character work and rehearsal, the clown also needs to make sure they are as prepared as possible before auditioning.
Before you can even think about your clown audition you need to make sure you have done the following:
1. Read the entire audition notice.
2. Prepare your materials in advance.
3. Know where the audition is being held.
4. Go to bed early the night before so you are well rested and awake for your audition.
5. Make sure you are dressed appropriately for the audition (i.e., don’t show up in jeans if specifically asked to wear black tights).
