It’s no secret that I love acting. Well, I kind of suck at it, but I love it nonetheless. And if you’re reading this post, you probably love it too. But how do you get started? How do you become an actor? Is there a secret formula? A magic elixir? A series of breathing exercises that will unlock your inner monologue? NOPE! Just four easy steps!
1. Be a Good Actor
I know what you’re thinking: “Hopkins, are you just going to keep telling me what I want to hear?” But think about it: wouldn’t the best way to become an actor be to be really good at acting? It’s so obvious! If you let me tell you HOW to be good at acting, then we’d both be actors!
2. Find People Who Need Actors
The one thing that makes this whole “being an actor” thing possible is being in a situation where people need actors. Luckily for us, there are lots of situations like this! Step 1: Ask yourself, “What does it take to be a great actor?”
Step 2: Ask yourself, “Can I do that?” If the answer is yes, then you have no doubt about your ability, and you can move on to Step 3. If the answer is no, then you have some doubt about your ability, and you will probably fail as an actor. Go home.

1. Decide that you want to be an actor. Make sure you have a good reason for wanting to be an actor and know that not everyone is cut out for it. You need to be persistent, patient, and tenacious. Having a passion for acting will help.
2. Train to become an actor. You don’t need a degree from a fancy college in order to become an actor, but you do need training and experience. Read books about acting, take classes, and participate in community theater productions or school plays so you can get used to working with other actors and being on stage or in front of a camera.
3. Get some experience under your belt. If you’re still in high school, find out if there are any film festivals in your area where you might be able to submit your work as a writer, director or actor. Consider working with local filmmakers who have their own production companies and may be looking for fresh talent they can mold and develop into something big.
4. Don’t give up! It’s important to keep trying even when you get rejected because rejection is part of the game of acting.
