Emma Rotherham Actor | Experience of Acting on Film and Television
A blog about what it’s like to be a featured actor on television as well as your latest projects.
From the moment I was cast in my first lead role as a young actor, I knew I wanted to be an actor and give it a go. I started out by auditioning at local plays and have been lucky enough to work with some incredible directors and crews on various productions over the last few years. Iβm always looking for great scripts and new projects that allow me to grow as an actor. My most recent project was filming with the BBC on their new series, Sherlock, where I played the role of Dr Watsonβs wife. In this episode, we find out that she had a secret life before she met her husband. My character is based off of the real-life woman who inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyleβs character. I had a lot of fun working on this project but am excited for my next challenge!

I have been acting since I was a teenager, but I only went full time as an actor after my degree at Cambridge University. Since then, I have acted in various films. Some of these have been short films, some have been feature films. For example, the first film that I ever made was a short film called “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, which is based on a story by the same name. This was actually filmed for my final project at Cambridge University, so it’s not really a big deal for me to talk about it. However, I still think that this film is really good and if you haven’t seen it yet, then please do watch it! It’s available for free streaming on YouTube.
Another film that I acted in was “The Great Gatsby”. This is actually one of my favourite movies and if you haven’t seen it yet, then please do watch it! It’s an adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel and is absolutely brilliant. The acting in the movie is just brilliant
