I have been watching the popular television show Breaking Bad for past couple of seasons. I have been impressed with a lot of the acting and especially with Bryan Cranston’s portrayal of Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who turns to making crystal meth as a way to provide for his family after learning he has terminal cancer.
In his recent interview in The Hollywood Reporter, Cranston talks about how he was able to prepare for his role. He said, “I would make up reasons why he made certain decisions. That’s what actors do. We’re storytellers.” It then goes on to talk about how he played a criminal himself in Malcolm in the Middle and how that helped him with the role of Walter White.
But can former criminals really be successful actors? Looking back at some of the most famous actors in history one can’t help but wonder if their past is what makes them so special as actors. I’m really excited about the new Breaking Bad series. We’ve all heard about Walter White, the high school science teacher who turned to selling meth, and I think this will be a great look into his life as an actor.
