First, let’s get one thing straight: I am obsessed with Jennifer Lawrence. She is a great actress, she is hilarious, and she was my absolute favorite part of X-Men: First Class. I have been waiting for her to break out and become a huge star because I know it will happen soon enough.

Many have called on me to provide a blog post that adequately explains the phenomenon that is Katniss Everdeen. I first saw her in action in 2012, where she competed against the best of the best in a fight for survival. What I witnessed was an unprecedented display of skill, talent, and strength that few others will ever match.
But what truly set her apart from the rest was her ability to capture the hearts of her fellow tributes and audience members alike. She had a way of creating unlikely alliances with those who may have never even dreamed of working together. She made friends, not enemies. She formed bonds, not rivalries. Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist and narrator of The Hunger Games. She is 16 years old and her home is District 12, the poorest of all the districts. Katniss is a hunter, tracker and scavenger. She is strong-willed and independent, but also stubborn and reckless at times.
Katniss’s mother suffers from depression after her father’s death in a mining accident. Katniss becomes the provider for her family by hunting illegally with her friend Gale outside of district 12.
When Katniss’s sister Primrose gets chosen to participate in the 74th annual Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to replace her sister in order to save her life. At the games, she is mentored by former victor Haymitch Abernathy who at first shows little faith in her but later proves his loyalty to Katniss when he helps save Peeta Mellark’s life during the games.
During the games, she forms an unlikely yet beneficial alliance with Rue, a young tribute from District 11 who reminds her of Primrose. When Rue dies from injuries sustained from fighting with another tribute, Katniss begins to feel guilty for not being able to protect her which leads to a deepening hatred towards the Capitol and leads her to rebel
I am a huge fan of The Hunger Games books because Katniss is such a strong, independent character. I was nervous when I went to go see the movie because what if Jennifer Lawrence didn’t portray Katniss’s character well? What if I didn’t like her? To my delight, Jennifer Lawrence did an excellent job of playing Katniss. Her acting was believable and she did an excellent job of portraying the emotions that the viewers feel when they read the books.
The Hunger Games has released a new movie poster showing Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen standing in front of a flaming Mockingjay pin. The poster also shows Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) and Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth). The posters tagline reads “Every revolution begins with a spark.”
In addition to the new poster, Lionsgate has released motion posters for each of the districts in Panem. Each motion poster features a different quote from President Snow (Donald Sutherland).

Katniss, who is played by Jennifer Lawrence, made her way through the Hunger Games as an unlikely hero; however, she became a hero to many. When Katniss was asked to participate in the 74th Hunger Games she did so without hesitation to save her sister, Primrose Everdeen.
The Hunger Games is an annual televised event that takes place in Panem, a country that is located in what used to be North America. The games are broadcasted by the Capitol and are watched by all of Panem’s districts. In these games 24 tributes are chosen and they fight until only one remains…the survivor.
Why do they fight? To show their loyalty and never forget the rebellion that failed 74 years ago; this annual event pays tribute to those lost lives.
