Alison Brie’s acting career started in childhood; she performed in local community productions of Annie and The Wizard of Oz, but it wasn’t until college that she considered taking it seriously. After graduation, Alison tried her hand at a number of jobs – production assistant, casting intern – before landing a role on Mad Men. She hasn’t stopped working since.

The first time I saw Alison Brie, she was riding a mechanical bull at a party in Los Angeles. This is not an uncommon sight in Los Angeles. It’s just that I wasn’t at a party in Los Angeles. I was watching an episode of Community, the television show on which Brie plays Annie Edison, a former straight-A high school student who dropped out of college and then returned to school to work towards a degree at the fictional Greendale Community College, where she meets and befriends Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), Troy Barnes (Donald Glover), Britta Perry (Gillian Jacobs), Abed Nadir (Danny Pudi), Shirley Bennett (Yvette Nicole Brown), Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase) and Annie’s eventual boyfriend, Vaughn Miller (Eric Christian Olsen).

In the episode “Contemporary American Poultry,” Abed has taken over the campus chicken finger trade with cold-blooded efficiency. Jeff convinces Abed to give him some of the profits, which he uses to throw his study group a housewarming party. Unfortunately for them, Abed has decided that he will only give them chicken fingers if they work for him. What follows is one of the best episodes of television in recent memory.
