act academy – preparation for the college audition is not just about acting skills; it’s about learning how to be a well-prepared, self-confident, and focused young performer.

This one-week program is designed for students entering grades 6 โ€“ 12 who are interested in pursuing a career in acting and/or musical theatre. Students will take classes that are designed to teach them how to prepare a portfolio, resumรฉ and headshot, proper audition attire, song selection and proper vocal technique. Students will also learn how to properly prepare their two contrasting monologues (one contemporary) as well as two contrasting songs (one upbeat).

Students will also receive individualized instruction which will culminate with a mock audition in front of an ACT instructor. At the end of the week, students will receive an evaluation on their performance skills in order to help them develop further in their craft.

The act academy is designed to help students prepare for the rigors of the college audition process. Students will learn how to properly prepare themselves for an audition (including cold reading), as well as how to develop their personal presence. Through the exploration of personal monologues and scenes, students will begin to craft an audition book that reflects their unique artistic voice.

The ACT Academy was created by a group of working actors and teachers who were frustrated by the lack of real acting training for kids who were interested in pursuing professional acting careers. The ACT Academy was designed to give young performers access to the same techniques and resources that are available in professional acting studios.

If you are a high school student interested in pursuing the performing arts as a college major, you most likely will be auditioning for colleges and conservatories.

The ACT Academy program at ACT provides a unique opportunity to gain confidence and performance skills while receiving expert advice during a college audition simulation. The program is designed to help young artists develop the skills necessary to successfully navigate the audition process. Working with professional actors and directors, students learn how to interpret scripts, how to choose appropriate monologues, and how to be comfortable performing in front of others.

Additional information

ACT Academy provides a comprehensive suite of preparation resources to support students in preparing for the ACT test. The ACT Academy resources include age-appropriate videos, interactive quizzes and games, and printable activities. ACT Academy products are available in both English and Spanish.

The ACT Academy online learning platform is free to all students, regardless of whether they are registered for an upcoming ACT test date or not.

ACT Academy does not offer โ€œtraditionalโ€ online courses, but rather individualized learning paths for each student based on their unique needs, as determined in a diagnostic test taken when the student first joins ACT Academy. Using these customized learning paths, students can learn at their own pace and choose to focus on areas where they need the most help.

ACT Academy also provides tools to teachers and parents so they can best support their studentsโ€™ study efforts. These tools include teacher guides and parent newsletters that provide tips and guidance on how to help students learn important concepts in math, science, reading, writing, and English.
