Sia Spence and Lana Young will be leading a masterclass in screenwriting and acting at Ignite Bermuda in Hamilton on Saturday April 26. The masterclass is open to senior students and adults with an interest in storytelling for the screen. Industry-standard skills will be taught through the Frames for the Future Masterclass, which runs from 9am to 5pm. Sia Spence, founder of Frames for the Future, aims to equip participants with industry-standard skills and inspire a collective vision of Bermuda as a vibrant hub for narrative filmmaking. Sia Spence hopes the pilot programme, including two hands-on workshops: Screenwriting Basics and Acting for the Camera, will lay the foundation for a series of future workshops and masterclasses. They are many extremely talented Bermudians in the acting field, particularly on stage and behind the camera – videographers, photography etc,” said Sia Spence. “My goal is to teach those individuals already in the industry and those who aren’t to an industry standard,” she said. Sia Spence is an associate producer on The Waterboyz and Little Brother. Lana Young, a seasoned actress and respected acting coach, will also be leading the masterclass. Her journey into acting did not follow the traditional path. She began her formal training well into adulthood. “I moved to the US aged 28, having previously worked in the corporate world, and didn’t go to drama school until I was in my 30s,” she said. “I recognise there are several ‘older’ people coming to the classes and would encourage them to be open to any life-changing paths open to them. “It’s never too late to engage and explore new things. I’m still learning new creative things. It’s an ever-unfolding story,” she said. Lana Young is deeply passionate about staying connected to her roots and remains committed to contributing to the growth of the arts in Bermuda. “I’m always looking at ways to bring Bermuda into the picture,” she added. “Sia has worked so hard to get this programme up and running. When she approached me to get involved, it was hard to say no to!”
