In the 1985 film Back to the Future, Michael J. Fox stars as Marty McFly who, after accidentally being sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, must make sure his high school-age parents unite in order to save his own existence.
George McFly is Marty’s father, portrayed by Crispin Glover. Throughout the film, we learn that George is a dweeb and a pushover who is bullied by Biff Tannen. After Marty gives him some much-needed confidence, he becomes a successful writer and stands up to Biff one more time.
A Look Back at George McFly’s Career: A Blog About the Career of Michael J. Fox is a site dedicated to the career of actor Michael J. Fox (b. 1961), best known for his role as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy. The blog provides profiles of each of Fox’s most notable roles and includes quotes from critics and other actors that worked alongside him.
Michael J. Fox has announced that he will donate all future profits from his acting projects to a new foundation that looks to combat Parkinson’s Disease, the same disease that forced him to retire from his starring role on Spin City in 2001. The foundation is a wonderful cause, and it does not appear that Michael J. Fox has any plans to return to acting. While we at Pajiba salute Mr. Fox for his efforts, we do have one request: Mr. Fox, please make a documentary about your work as George McFly.
The centerpiece of the documentary can be an interview with George Lucas in which he talks about why he cast Michael J. Fox instead of Crispin Glover as Marty McFly’s father. It’s been said that Glover was dropped from the Back To The Future sequel because he refused to cut his hair for the film and caused problems on set (Glover denies this), but I’ve always wondered if maybe Lucas didn’t want to be reminded of what happened when he went back and made changes to Star Wars once too many times.
There are plenty of other people who could talk about how great Michael J. Fox was in Teen Wolf Too, including any audience members who actually paid money to see
George McFly, of Back to the Future fame, has had a long career as an actor and producer. Starting in 1985 with his role in Back to the Future, George McFly has been featured in some of Hollywood’s most successful movies.
In 1989 Michael J. Fox returned to his role as Marty McFly to reprise his hit character. The movie was titled “Back to the Future II.” Explaining that there had been a time travel accident, Marty and Doc Brown must go back and fix the mistake before it destroys the entire space-time continuum. George and Lorraine McFly are featured as Marty’s parents.
In 1990 Michael J. Fox starred in “Back to the Future III” where he must return once again to 1955 and rescue Doc from certain death at the hands of an angry mob. Michael J. Fox married Mary Steenburgen who played Clara Clayton in this movie.
The first thing that stands out about George McFly is his career. The man had a range of roles and characters that he could play. From the archetypal father in Back to the Future to a more complicated character like Curt Newport in The Secret of My Success, McFly was able to portray a wide range of emotions.
What’s so great about George McFly is that you could never quite peg him down. He was always a bit offbeat, but it wasn’t until the late 1980s when he started getting more serious roles that you realized how good an actor he was. He took the part of Curt Newport in The Secret of My Success and made it his own.
The irony of George McFly’s career is that, while most people remember him for his role in the film “Back to the Future,” he had a long and successful career before that.
Born in 1961, McFly started acting at age 15 with a small role in the film “The Death of a Cyborg.” He was then cast as a lead in the film “The Warrior,” after which he began getting steady work in television.
He worked on shows such as “Family Ties,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and “The Twilight Zone.” He also did some voiceover work for cartoons, including the classic “My Little Pony.”
During this period of his career, McFly became known for playing characters who were nerdy and weak-willed. This typecasting led to some frustration on his part, as he wanted to be taken more seriously as an actor.
In 1985 he auditioned for the role of Marty McFly in Back to the Future. While he didn’t get the role (it went to Michael J. Fox), director Robert Zemeckis was so impressed with his performance that he decided to
In the film, it is revealed that the father of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is a scientist working on a secret government project that involves time travel. However, George is too shy to ask Lorraine Baines (Lea Thompson), Marty’s mother, out on a date and does not have any friends at all.
Marty’s friend Doctor Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) comes up with an idea to send him back in time and have him talk to his younger self and give him the courage to go out with Lorraine Baines.
One night George is sitting alone in his house when he hears the sound of the DeLorean pulling up in his driveway. His younger self steps out of the car, followed by Doc Brown and Marty McFly who is wearing a radiation suit and has apparently had an accident at Doc’s lab.
Marty tells George that he has come from the future to help him get together with Lorraine so that they can have a family together. Marty gives George some advice on how to talk to girls, telling him what to say and how to behave around them.
When people hear the name Michael J. Fox, they immediately think of the star of such hit television shows as Spin City and Family Ties. But many forget that Michael J. Fox is also an accomplished stage actor. He began his career in high school where he took part in several plays including This Is A Test and The Importance of Being Earnest. It was there that he not only landed his first lead role as Gabe in Born Yesterday, but also met his future wife Tracy Pollan.
After high school, Fox went on to attend the University of British Columbia and studied drama until he left to pursue a career in acting full time. The budding young actor moved to Los Angeles where he landed a role on the sitcom Family Ties where he played Alex Keaton for seven years. During this time Fox also starred in commercials for such products as Pepsi One and M&Ms, but it wasn’t until 1986 that he really started getting recognition as an actor with a small role in the film Light Of Day starring Joan Jett and Michael’s future Back To The Future co-star, Gene Wilder.
Fox appeared in several films before landing a role in what would become one of his most well known films ever, Back To
