This past year, many Chinese films have been released to critical acclaim, including films like Mr. Six and Go Away Mr. Tumor. The directors of these films chose to cast relatively unknown actors or actresses in the films, which was a risky move to take but it ended up paying off.
Because of their success, there has been a great deal of buzz around these new actors and actresses who are now being considered for more roles in the future. Here is a look at five Chinese actors that you should keep your eye on in 2016.
1.Wang Baoqiang
Mr. Six was a huge hit at the box office and Wang Baoqiangβs performance as the titular character was one of the reasons why it was so successful. If you were not familiar with him before this film, you will certainly remember him now because he has been nominated for several awards for his role as Mr. Six including Best Actor at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards and Best Leading Actor at the 3rd China Film Directors Guild Awards.
2.Ying Er
Ying Er is another actress who starred in Go Away Mr. Tumor this past year and impressed audiences with her performance as Bei Bei, an illustrator who is diagnosed

4. Zhu Yilong (ζ±δΈιΎ)
5. Jiang Shuying (ε§θθΉ)
I watch a lot of Chinese movies and television shows. As you may know from my previous blog post, there is a lot of great Chinese entertainment coming out in 2016 and I have been compiling my most anticipated list for this year. I thought it would also be interesting to highlight some actors to keep an eye on this year. Some of these actors are more well known than others, however I feel that these are the actors that will have the biggest impact in 2016.
Liu Yifei (born An Feng ) appeared in her first television series at age 15, with roles in Wuxinghuanghun (Chinese Paladin) and The Story of a Noble Family. She was named as one of the New Four Dan Actresses (εε°θ±ζ¦) in 2009, along with Yuan Shanshan, Tang Yan, and Zheng Shuang.
Liu has starred in two adaptations of The Return of the Condor Heroes: the 2006 series Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils and 2014’s The Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre. She gained international prominence by playing Princess Du Lala in Stephen Chow’s film A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella (1995). Since then she has starred in many films including The Forbidden Kingdom (2008
1. Chen Kun
I know, I know. He is not exactly new, but I think that the past year has been his year and that he deserves to be on this list. Not only did he give a strong performance in “The Palace,” which was one of the most watched dramas of 2015, he also managed to play a role in the blockbuster “The Witness.” To top it all off, he was awarded with the Best Actor award during the Golden Horse awards for his role in “The Last Women Standing.” The movie is currently on Netflix and I highly recommend you to watch it. The man has range and talent, which is probably why he is one of the few Chinese actors that have managed to have a successful career both in China and internationally. Who knows what 2016 will bring us from him?
2. Zhang Luyi
Chinese acting is a volatile profession. Every year, thousands of young actors and actresses graduate with dreams of making it big in the film industry. But most of them fail to make a break and fade into obscurity after small roles in films and TV dramas.
However, there are a few who do stand out from the crowd. They are the ones you should be watching out for as they take on more and more challenging roles in 2016.
