Career

I’ve been on the road a lot lately, and without fail people come up to me and ask “I saw you in a play.” They don’t say “I saw you in ‘Hamlet'” or “I saw you in ‘Sylvia'”. They say “I saw you in a play.”
It’s not surprising. I have had a long and highly varied career, most of it spent at the Stratford Festival, the world’s largest classical repertory theatre. I have played leading roles in many of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other playwrights from Moliere to Chekhov. I have acted with some of the finest directors, writers and actors of our time.
The reality is that what one has done, who one has worked for or with, is an actor’s greatest currency. In my case, there are more than 50 productions on my resume. But if anyone cares to find out who I am or what I’ve done, they’ll find that it’s all there – complete with dates and venues. And how one should go about getting those kinds of roles?
That’s another story altogether.
If you were born in the 50’s, you’ve seen this actor in movies and on television. He has been around forever, working steadily and producing a body of work enviable by most other actors in Hollywood.
He’s played the “nice guy” and he’s played the “heavy.” He has portrayed people of different races and walks of life.
His versatility as an actor is unquestioned. And he’s not afraid to take chances with his roles.
Even if you haven’t seen him much lately, he’s still around, working and enjoying his craft. As a matter of fact, he has a number of projects in the works right now.
