In the summer of 2009, Alice Chan began working as a real estate agent in Vancouver. At the time, the housing market was booming; the city had been named The Hollywood of the North for its burgeoning film industry. She saw it as an opportunity to combine her own passions – acting and real estate – into one career.
“I realized I could be doing both at the same time,” she said. “And so that’s why I decided to start my blog.”
Called 20 Canadian Actor You Should Know, it features headshots of actors and actresses alongside their IMDB pages and contact information.
The idea is to bring attention to lesser-known talent in Canada, turning their names into household ones in hopes of increasing their visibility – and rates – to casting directors, producers and directors looking to cast films or television shows.
“There’s so much talent here in Canada and nobody knows about them,” said Chan. “I thought if they can’t get known by themselves then I’ll do it for them.”

“20 Canadian Actors You Should Know” started in 2007 as a magazine article. Since then, the list has been updated on a regular basis to reflect the ever-growing talent pool across Canada. This year’s list includes actors who have starred in critically acclaimed films, television shows and theatre productions.
