Here are the 12 highest-paid actors in the world (Forbes 2017 list)

A number of actors are on the Forbes list of highest-paid celebrities this year. The list, which was released earlier this week, ranks the world’s highest-paid actors and actresses, and a few are also among the top 100 highest-paid celebrities.

Brad Pitt came in at No. 5 on the list of actors with $31.5 million in pretax earnings. The majority of his income came from films like “World War Z,” “The Counselor” and “12 Years a Slave.” Robert Downey Jr. is ranked No. 1 with $75 million in earnings for films like “Iron Man 3” and “The Judge.”

Forbes compiles its lists by talking to agents, producers, lawyers and other industry insiders to estimate income from entertainment-related activities between June 2013 and June 2014. Management fees and other expenses are then deducted to estimate earnings before taxes. Forbes does not deduct for things like Agent fees or the other costs of being a celebrity.

With $52 million in earnings over 12 months, Johnson replaced Robert Downey Jr., who had been the highest paid for three years straight. The ranking is compiled through interviews with managers, producers and agents and takes into account salaries, bonuses and endorsements.

“I’m completely humbled by this,” Johnson told Forbes. “I still feel like I have a lot to prove.”

Johnson’s pro wrestling days are behind him, but he continues to rake in millions from his WWE days thanks to his royalty deal from the company’s signature Rock merchandise line.

“The Fate of the Furious,” the eighth installment in Universal Pictures’ successful Fast and Furious franchise, grossed more than $1 billion at the box office this year. Johnson has starred as Special Agent Luke Hobbs since 2011’s “Fast Five.”

Johnson is also a producer, co-founder of fitness apparel line Project Rock (he owns a stake), and owner of the production company Seven Bucks Productions. His tequila brand Teremana launches early next year.
